Guest Phoebe
I just love your spunk Sara. So sorry you both are going through this. And Orca, if all pet owners were as caring as you, this world would be a much, much better place. Link to comment

I was talking to a vet and apparently you can by electrolytes to feed to your bird. I'm interested in getting some, due to Saffron giving me heart attacks every now and then, but maybe you should ask your vet if they have any. I think Harrison's bird foods, sell similar products too. Link to comment

They are great, used by many exhibitors to help any stress of showing and recommended for sick birds too. Vetafarm's "spark" is one, as is "polyaid". Feathers. Link to comment

I offered her a variety of soft food (e.g. eggs, banana, etc.) but she wasn’t able to eat any, except when my husband gave her some multigrain beard soaked with water, she nibbled a bit on it, I think she likes the soft seeds in it but I don’t know if it is an okay seeds. Anyhow she didn’t have much. also she is not drinking my tea or the power drink (non carbonated energy drink) she doesn’t mind water but not that often. Feather, where do you get those drinks which you are talking about? I have this photo of her last week; she was alright apart from her shoulder lump. http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g191/orca_01/IMG_0190.jpg But here she is today breaking my heart. http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g191/orca_01/IMG_0222.jpg Link to comment

Don't use Gatorade, it's too high in salt! Hope she is feeling better hugs. Link to comment

Feather, where do you get those drinks which you are talking about? Good pet stores will have one or the other or an avian vet. You could also get them direct from vetafarm's website. http://www.vetafarm.com.au/product_list.asp?category_id=25 Feathers. Edited August 11, 2007 by feathers Link to comment

The pictures just break my heart. I just want to hold her close to me and shower her with love. Keep offering her the things she'll pick at. I would imagine that the bread would be just fine. Getting anything into her at this point is key. And I just had an idea for getting liquids into her! If she's not drinking on her own, give her the tea or electrolytes (I'd think the sugaryier the better, to help provide energy and get her blood sugar up) from a medicine dropper, one drop at a time to her beak. When Baby was on oral meds, the vet said even if she doesn't actively lap up the drop and swallow, capillary action will draw enough of it in to her beak where it will still be absorbed. Perhaps trying this (several drops at a time every hour or so) will get enough into her to help perk her up enough to eat and drink on her own. My heart aches for you, Sara and your family!!! Just I was wondering if you know any way to clean her without causing her to stress or get cold, because her feathers are really messy and dirty, definitely she can’t have a bath and I’m afraid that if I spray her with water she’ll get cold first of all, also she can’t do her bit in cleaning. And if I leave her without cleaning, does that affect her health? Link to comment
Guest Phoebe
:ausb: Cannot help you with cleaning problem, maybe a warm spray with a fine mist water bottle and gentle wipe? Glad that Sara has started eating again, she is so precious. Link to comment

I would say if you clean her keep her very very warm until she is throughly dry and do it in the morning so she has the daytime which is warmer to dry vs night when it get cooler. Link to comment

We all know how icky it is to feel all grubby when you're not feeling good. However, keeping her warm would be key as you already know. Maybe using a damp towel to wipe her feathers down might help without soaking her to the bone. Or mist her and then wipe away the moisture and hopefully some of the grime. Do you have a warm lamp you can put her by until she's dry again? Here's a kind of crazy idea.... Its so sweet that she gets excited about your husband's voice. Could you make a little recording of him for her? That way he could 'be there' for her without getting upset about her condition. Link to comment

Guest Phoebe
I just had a little weep for Sara, it was such a love story and you both tried so hard!! For seeing all the bird and animal abuse all over the world, you are a testament that there ARE very caring and wonderful people that will go that extra distance to help, cherish and comfort. Please let everybody know about Sara's passing in the Memoriam section, I know many, as I am, will be very sad. My condolences to you and your family, you are GOOD and EXCEPTIONAL people. :ausb: Sara Link to comment

WHEN TOMORROW STARTS WITHOUT ME, AND I'M NOT THERE TO SEE, THE SUN WILL RISE AND FIND YOUR EYES, ALL FILLED WITH TEARS FOR ME I KNOW HOW MUCH YOU LOVED ME, AS MUCH AS I LOVED YOU. AND EACH TIME YOU THINK OF ME I KNOW YOU'LL MISS ME TOO. BUT WHEN TOMORROW STARTS WITHOT ME, PLEASE TRY TO UNDERSTAND, AN ANGLE CAME AND CALLED MY NAME AND I STEPPED UP ON HER HAND. SHE SAID MY PLACE WAS READY IN BIRD HEAVEN FAR ABOVE BUT THAT I'D HAVE TO LEAVE BEHIND ALL THOSE I DEARLY LOVE IF I COULD RELIVE YESTERDAY EVEN FOR A LITTLE WHILE I'D FLY OVER AND KISS YOU JUST TO SEE YOU SMILE SO WHEN TOMORROW STARTS WITHOUT ME DON'T THINK WE'RE FAR APART FOR EVERY TIME YOU THINK OF ME I'M RIGHT THERE IN YOUR HEART. I hope this helps. :dbb1: Edited August 18, 2007 by Daz Link to comment
