What a day it has been !! :fear My dear husband did something I was unaware of and brought home some branches for the birds in the aviary and put them in my aviaries as well as his own. That was yesterday, and I wasnt told about it and didnt know. My first check of the birds this morning.....sick birds everywhere !! Then I saw the branches !! I quickly removed them and caught up all the sick birds. Birds that yesterday were stunning in size and vigour were today thin as thin and scoured from green faeces passing through the night. They were weak and struggling. In short I lost two of my youngsters...Churchill ( yellow and green dom pied baby of Winston ) and a cinnamon Green that Daz said to keep an eye on as it would turn out okay ( show type ). I have 15 birds in sick cages under treatment and warm lamps. Mostly the smaller birds, as in youngsters, are most affected. It's all about bodyweight and ingestion of the offending branches, leaves and nuts. The bigger the budgie the less affected it is. Ken lovingly put these branches in my showbird aviary, my main aviary and my youngsters aviary.........all unbeknown to me. The vet says, there is nothing to do, but see it through and treat the symptoms, which I am doing and then wait and see who makes it and who doesnt. The birds are also on charcoal based products to try and remove any remaining toxins. Some of the other birds in the aviary, look terrible...dropped wings and fluffy looking, but seemd to perk up a bit later in the day. I have favourites looking very unwell. Time will tell what will happen tomorrow. The poisonous branches were boxwood. Ken believed because they had "gumnuts" on them that they were natural australian gumtrees. They werent and I would have told him that if I had known what he had done or was about to do. Very scary stuff and yet not quite over. Link to comment

I hope and prey for no more dead budgies with the new light of day tomorrow. Ken has done some things before on impulse and not thinking that has cost me birds. Whilst I have not "ripped his head off" over this, he must stop doing things without checking with me first. He questions my knowledge often and it has bad consequences. Thankyou for all your good thoughts and wishes. There are worse off than us right now. All I can think about is Shawna and what she is going through. With that....this is nothing in life's great scheme of things to be worried about. Biggest hugs to Shawna and the little fellow. :angel1: Link to comment

Leave the skin intact. it will act as a laxitive. Also the enzimes will help strengthen them. You have to wait 24 hours to use it. All the best. Edited April 23, 2007 by Daz Link to comment

I am also crop feeding some of the sick with additional fluids also. Some in the hospital cage have eaten some fresh eggfood, so thats promising. Link to comment

There are possibly two in the hospital cage still not looking up to par, and time will tell. A cold, windy, rainy day so the ones in the hospital cages stayed there in the warmth and to get well again. Link to comment
