Hi

I am thinking of buying some software to help me keep track of my birds but there are so many programs out there not sure which is best. Here are the ones I am looking at so if you are using any of these I would be grateful for your thoughts on them

1.) Bird Tracker for Windows

2.) Aviary Base Pro 7

3.) The Budgerigar Program

4.) Birds Evolution Pro

If you have used 1 or more of these and could give me the strong and weak points of them it would be very useful in making up my mind which to go for?

Thanks in advance Tony.

I like The Budgerigar Program 2006. I know of people who like and use the Bird Tracker program, but I have not come across the other 2.

You can download a working trial programme for The Budgerigar Program if you wish to assess it. You can put up to 200 birds on an unregistered program but you are unable to access all of the features, however you can see what it is capable of. It has a very user friendly interface and doesn't use up a lot of your system resources to run. A lot of exhibition breeders that I am aware of use this program.

I use both Bird Traker and The Budgerigar Program 2006.

Both are very good programs. I prefer to use The Budgerigar Program. But if some one could put both programs togeather it would be a best seller.

Have they got genetic prediction options and how good and easy to use is it?

It's something I would like in the software and hope it would be easy to use.

Daz just stumbling through the board when I came across this my BF is a computer geek and was going to write me a program just for the fun of it *shakes head at the nerd* but I saw this and he would be intrested in trying to compbine the software only issue is knowing what is important to combine and what is not. If I got my hands on copies of both pieces of software could you tell us what he needs from both and then he could attempt to write a new program that incorportates both. Anyone else that would have ideas on what needs to be kept in the records could also let us know. hey we could build the BBC program :P

Anyway let me know, no promises but this is the type of stuff that he loves to do so I'll let him have his fun! Also great way to involve him in my hobby as he is normally at cat person! B)

MB write a list of what you want in the breeding program you can be one of our test subjects :P

He has been saying how it might be easier to write things from scratch instead of combining existing software. i am going to try and get copies of both programs and we will have a look but if anyone can think of things that they want in the software then let me know!

I think a predictor which allows you to combine a bird with more than one mutation and also known splits would be great. The ability to punch in the identifier of the potential hen and cock and have the program use their known details such as parentage automatically, whithout the user having to punch it in. Plus of course the basics of pedigrees, etc

I would prefer to use TBP but have the age of the birds as in BT. At the moment you have to calculate it separately.

BT reminders on egg hatching, ringing and fledging is good too.
