But you have to catch it early and not after air or germs have got in. Link to comment

I thought I read somewhere here that you can fix the hole in an egg.... I think Daz wrote it somewhere... *Off to look for it You can repair a hole in an egg with a small piece of other eggshell glued over it or by painting over it some whiteout ( liquid paper ). But you have to catch it early and not after air or germs have got in. Yep, I looked for the solutions but couldn't find it quick enough. I remembered the liquid paper, but that would be better suited to a crack, not a hole. So I covered it with a little bit of a sticky address label. The egg broke when the parents were trying to get the sticker off and I think they would have tried the same thing with a bit of eggshell anyway. Jewel did indeed lay egg number 4 yesterday. Today we will see if Jade is going to add number 6 to her pile. I have been candling the eggs and so far 3 eggs of Jade's are fertile as is Jewel's first egg. One of the exhibition hens that went into a breeding cabinet the other day wasn't eating, so she has gone back out to the flight. The rest are either not in condition or too young, so they can wait until around late June/July and I will put some more together then. Feathers. Link to comment

Tealah and Bean have 1 egg now: Couldn't tell whether Jade laid number 6 or not as she refused to get off her eggs, so I let her be and I will check tomorrow. Jewel added another egg to her clutch yesterday, so she is at egg 4, 3 good, 1 damaged. Feathers. Edited May 11, 2007 by feathers Link to comment

Their first egg appeared this afternoon. Jade stopped at 5, Jewel stopped at 5 (1 damaged) and so far Tealah has four also. The first jelly bean is due to arrive tomorrow or Monday. It's funny, but I am so excited for the budgies. When I saw the new egg today I congratulated the hen - "Well done, Keely, good girl". Keely, Tealah and Beau, Jewels other half, are 3 of my first 8 "special" budgies, so it's great to see them doing so well. Gee's I'm a softy... Feathers. Link to comment

There is a fair bit of romance going on, with hens sorting out their nestboxes by throwing out some of the pine shavings. The 7th pair, that went in this morning, will probably be quicker than the rest. The 3 yr old male is very keen to get started and was sweet talking his hen as soon as I pt them in. Breeding cages No. 1 - 6 Breeding cabinets No. 7 -8 Pair 1 - GF skyblue spangle hen x Mauve Spangle Cock Pair 2 - GF cobalt opaline hen x Grey normal cock Pair 3 - Violet spangle hen x Dk green greywing cock Pair 4 - Dk green normal hen x Skyblue opaline cock Pair 5 - GF cobalt opaline hen x Skyblue spangle cock Pair 6 - GF cobalt hen X Skyblue cock Pair 7 - Exhibition Budgies - Albino hen x Skyblue/ino cock So, which of you clever people can tell me what to expect from each of these 7 pairs? Feathers. If you are breeding young ones to be shown, you should put a grey with an Albino as when you put blue you can get the blue sheen coming through on the young, As I has been breeding Albinos for a while but have decided no more as I haven't got a normal grey cock of quality to go with my Albino hen, she needs a realy good cock bird to improve as she is not so great even though she is an Allan Rowe bird and cost $120.00. and what I have got out of her has been dissapointing. BUT Feathers I am sure I am right about the grey and not blue. Link to comment

Tealah and her boy Bean have 4 eggs, the first of which is due to hatch around the end of the month. Keely and her boy Daddy now have five eggs, the last laid yesterday. Here is a picture of Keely in the nestbox this morning. Both exhibition pairs I have put together at the moment are showing an interest in their nestboxes. One hen in particular has been spending most of her day in hers. There is also another pet pair together that I keep seeing mate, so they shouldn't be far off their first egg either. Feathers. At least she looks like less of a seal in this photo: All pairs doing well, except maybe for poor Jade, who has only 1 chick left after one died overnight. I think 2 more pairs will start laying by the end of the week. Feathers. Edited May 29, 2007 by feathers Link to comment
