There is a fair bit of romance going on, with hens sorting out their nestboxes by throwing out some of the pine shavings. The 7th pair, that went in this morning, will probably be quicker than the rest. The 3 yr old male is very keen to get started and was sweet talking his hen as soon as I pt them in. Breeding cages No. 1 - 6 Breeding cabinets No. 7 -8 Pair 1 - GF skyblue spangle hen x Mauve Spangle Cock Pair 2 - GF cobalt opaline hen x Grey normal cock Pair 3 - Violet spangle hen x Dk green greywing cock Pair 4 - Dk green normal hen x Skyblue opaline cock Pair 5 - GF cobalt opaline hen x Skyblue spangle cock Pair 6 - GF cobalt hen X Skyblue cock Pair 7 - Exhibition Budgies - Albino hen x Skyblue/ino cock So, which of you clever people can tell me what to expect from each of these 7 pairs? Guest hommer2054
nice birds lovely pairs. In the first picture it shows the breeding boxes at a low level do you get better results this way? anyone who knows budgies will tell you what I know don't expect the same as the pair you are breeding from. I tried for years to get purple birds until I found out that any budgie with a patch on the back of the head has the gene it's some sort of regressive gene. I have put blue with green and you would think 2 blue 2 green and I got all yellow?. So in the end I gave up and am happy with what ever I get. well all the best and by for now. Link to comment

I am a bit excited about the prospects of this pair.. whether or not I get visual ino's. don't expect the same as the pair you are breeding from I don't expect the same. It will be very exciting to see what I get.. I have the possibilities of inos, df spangles, YF2 and GF's, all sorts. With any luck I will soon have some eggs, which will go on to become little pink jelly beans, which will feather up nicely and reveal their genetic makeup. How exciting. feathers Link to comment

( Trust me bodgy )...So are you gonna part with your seceret?????????? * Begs... I didn't have any breeding cabinets so I used some flight cages that I already had. I cut some aviary wire to fit in the middle of each cage. The only place that I could put the nestboxes was in the feeding doors. I did that by tying the doors up and then used cable ties to hold the nestboxes on. They are lower than I would like, but at least 3 of the pairs look like they will be laying very soon. The other 2 cabinets are compliments of Kaz. She is going to be doing new cabinets for her bird room, so I am quite happily taking her 'discards' Is that Hans blue cockbird. How many Showbirds have you now It sure is the bird from Hans. As of this morning, I have 17. I got 3 new ones this morning. A mauve spangle cock, a grey spangle hen (magnificent) and an 07 rung cinnamon grey spangle hen. feathers. Link to comment

Pair 2 - GF cobalt opaline hen x Grey normal cock 12.5% Goldenface normals hens 12.5% Goldenface grey normal hens 12.5% Grey normal hens 12.5% Cobalt normal hens 12.5% Goldenface normals/Opaline cocks 12.5% Goldenface grey normal/Opaline cocks 12.5% Grey normal/Opaline cocks 12.5% Cobalt normal/Opaline cocks Pair 3 - Violet spangle hen x Dk green Greywing cock (are we sure is violet? also she isn't opaline as well?) 25% Violet green spangles/ Greywing/blue 25% Green spangles/ Greywing/blue 25% Violet green normals/ Greywing/blue 25% Green normals/ Greywing/blue She looks like a cobalt to me in the picture but could be from the flash, if she is then there is a chance for Dark green and Olives. If she is Opaline as well the cocks will be split for it. Pair 4 - Dk green normal hen x Skyblue opaline cock 25% Dark green Opaline Hens/ blue 25% Light Green Opaline Hens/blue 25% Dark green Normal cocks/ opaline/ blue 25% Light green Normal cocks/ Opaline/ blue Pair 5 - GF cobalt opaline hen x Skyblue spangle cock 6.25% GF cobalt normal hens 6.25% GF sky blue normal hens 6.25% cobalt normal hens 6.25% sky blue normal hens 6.25% GF cobalt spangle hens 6.25% GF sky blue spangle hens 6.25% cobalt spangle hens 6.25% sky blue spangle hens 6.25% GF cobalt normal cocks/ Opaline 6.25% GF sky blue normal cocks/ Opaline 6.25% cobalt normal cocks/ Opaline 6.25% sky blue normal cocks/ Opaline 6.25% GF cobalt spangle cocks/ Opaline 6.25% GF sky blue spangle cocks/ Opaline 6.25% cobalt spangle cocks/ Opaline 6.25% sky blue spangle cocks/ Opaline Pair 6 - GF cobalt hen X Skyblue cock 25% GF cobalt normal 25% GF Skyblue normal 25% Cobalt normal 25% Skyblue normals Pair 7 - Exhibition Budgies - Albino hen x Skyblue/ino cock 25% Albino hens 25% Normal hens 25% Albino cocks 25% Normal/split Albino cock With the normal they could be cobalt or sky blues depending on the dark factor the hen carries. wow that was fun! You've done well. Pair 3 - Violet spangle hen x Dk green Greywing cock (are we sure is violet? also she isn't opaline as well?) She is very definitely violet. We had this arguement once before in a mutations thread. I doubted my own eyes until the day I met Kaz. I believe we have some EGGS ? We do indeed. Miss Jade (GF Cobalt Hen) & Bengey (Skyblue cock) have 5 eggs so far: http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q265/al...desEggs002a.jpg Their next door neighbours Jewel (GF Cobalt Opaline hen) & Beau (skyblue spangle cock) have laid 3 eggs, one of which was damaged (I think the hen accidently put a claw in it as it had a tiny hole). So they now have 2 left. I believe she is laying number 4 at the moment as she wouldn't come ot of her nest box when I tapped, so I left her to it. Most of the other pairs have either been broken up or had a partner change in the last 2 weeks or so. One of the original couples that I was considering taking out decided to give me a 10 minute budgie sex education show while I was watching, so they can stay. He is quite a buff budgie, so I will give him a vent trim to see if that helps. My albino hen x skyblue/ino cock I put back into the aviary as they weren't doing anything but I would really like something to come of that pair. When I put them in her cere was very light so I was hoping putting her in a breeding cabinet with a male may bring her into condition and while her cere was getting darker it wasn't as dark as I'd hope. Rather than leaving them to get bored I have re-flighted them and will try again when she is in breeding condition. So at the moment 5 cages have couples and the other 3 have a hen only. They will get a cock each within the next 3 days Feathers. Edited May 10, 2007 by feathers Link to comment
