I found this forum whilst looking for useful tips on how to tame your new budgie. I found the site pret-ty good, so decided to join. I have had budgerigars in my family for around 10 years. My Mum and Dad still have Yoda - our 10yo boy at their home (my little brother named him - whilst obsessed with Star Wars.. ). Yoda basically grew up in my bedroom and sees me as his Mummy - so I miss him terribly! After moving out of home and spending time at home alone, I decided I needed a little friend. I bought the cage and other essentials, but did not find our new baby until 2 days ago. I wanted to find a happy little one from a breeder, but could not find one close to where we live (I didn'twant to transport the poor little thing in the car for more than 20minutes). We found a gorgeous blue baby boy at a local pet store, and named him Cosmo. I think he is a little bit older than I would have liked, but he will come round. Anyhow, that'll do for now! Thanks you guys! This forum is sooo great! I have been looking at the beautiful pictures on here... Makes me want to get a true baby budgie! (That is, a budgie that is around 25 days old). I'm not used to the budgie being scared of hands! I need to find a trick to get him to want to hop on.. I feel like a scared new mum! I really hope he likes me soon! Oh, and I have noticed how much he eats! Cosmo's no budgie! He's a piglet! He won't stop gnawing at a seed stick that my partner got for him. He is even sleeping on it! Deary me! Link to comment

They have to make sure they are eating on their own and 25 days is a bit young just so you know I the key is to not give up it took me 9 months to est a really great bond with Pretty and all those months was worth it he was a great boy. Geepers! Then I am glad that Cosmo is not a baby-baby! Yeah - I think that given how long they live for - I am more than prepared to wait for him to warm to me! Thanks Elly! Oh, and here is a (crappy) photo of Cosmo in his first couple of hours in our home: (Yes, the background is clearer - silly RAZR camera! Or silly me!?? haha!) My next current concern is that he seems rather flighty. He will 'twitch'/ quickly flap his wings, and squat ready to fly.. Maybe he is still nervous around people/ us? What I found is that my budgies warmed up to me but if other people looked at them that didn't spend time (including family members who live in the house) they were flighter. Beware, if you keep posting cute pics, your Cosmo may well end up as one of our favourite forum budgies (we claim forum rights of ownership on all well published budgies - and 16 yr old's - Hi Baby ) Doing 'silly' things like sitting near cosmo's cage and reading can help them get used to you. Hope you enjoy your time here. Cosmo is GORGEOUS!!! A very handsome budgie indeed. I couldn't help but notice you have him in a round cage? Round cages lack corners and a sense of security for birds. They're also usually small and impossible to arrange in a way that gives them lots of space to play. Just a few tips. It might be worth looking into a square/rectangular cage some time in the future. Think about a flock of budgies if 1 is quiet they are all quiet because that to them means danger if there is noise then everything is safe. That is why they say if you have 1 budgie to leave a radio on for them when you leave. Noise they love and mine always get noise when the kids were yelling, or yes we were on the phone . It was always noisy at home when we were kids, and our budgies seemed to love it! I have the stereo on right now - Cosmo is chirrupping away.. Its nice! We have to go out tonight - so this will be his first night alone in our home! I hope I am not too hungover tomorrow! haha! I am loving Cosmo more every day (as expected)! Cosmo will let me put my finger to his chest and cheeks, but will flutter away when I try to put my finger so that he will hop on.... Mind you, he is very interested in anything that I am doing - brushing my hair, writing, playing with my mobile (cell) phone.. He gets exctied!! I am sure that he will trust us more..
