Hi,

I just want to know, is this hen budgie a good quality normal grey budgie?

What are her good and bad sides?

What qualities should her mate have?

I can't answer those questions above but how old is she? She still looks very young, she is beautiful.

She certainly looks like she could be. Is she from exhibition stock parents? Most show breeders will wait until the hen is old enough to breed (at least 2 years) and then put her in a show cage to assess all her strong points and weak points, before choosing a partner.

As she is yet to go through a first moult it is way to early to know what qualities to look for in a mate.

Feathers.

We in Australia call this a nestfeather. the english call it a barhead.. You will be waiting at least another 10 to 11 months before pairing it.

As far as quality, it is a chick that I would love to see in my nest.

It has nice width of head, back skull is nice the mask and spots are developing nicely. It has very good deportment in the first picture and stands tall on the perch.

I'd make sure the protien is up to her as she develops over the next 3 months.

A word on Protien, I have heard that a large percentage of Egg and Biscuit is just biscuit. If you want to improve it, add a hard boiled chicken egg to it and crumble it up.

the only way to really tell is when it has had the first moult i have seen nest feather winners here that are poor quality when they have moulted out

What qualities should her mate have?

the best but once again you will have to wait till its moulted out to see actual faults that need work on

didnt say i wouldnt like it but one point you dont know how big it is there is nothing to compre it with that is why you should use a show cage so people can tell the size of the bird

its a little hard to tell but i thought its head was alittle narrow between the eyes and the front lobe a bit shallow

watch the secondary flights through the moult , they look a little long , try and pair to a bird with shorter flights when shes ready .

the secondary flights should come across the rump and touch to form what is called the wing shield with the ends of the flights touching at the start of the tail.

good luck with the breeding

:D
