it looks great Kaz. Can you take a picture that shows us the set up from a distance? Think backdoor then one every 4 or so metres as you get closer

The two other kindie cages are in the way at the moment. And the full distance is not quite 6m. Ken and I are doing the external cladding of the front aviary right now, so all birds can go in and be safe. Once thats done I will take more pictures. If you mean take pictures from the back door of the house to the aviary, there is too much building cr*p in the way right now.

I have noticed now that more birds in there have learnt to fly fully front to back and gain enough lift for the perches.

I think the birds do too LBB :) They seem excited in there, and taking flying lessons :P

Kindie cages are in there till I sort out all the birds from them and also till I remove them tomorrow. I am putting all red and blue ringers in one aviary and older ones the other.

Meanwhile top of the cages is one of the places to hang out.

Yes, that is the plan although timewise I may not get to do it until xmas or so. We will see. If it needs it sooner it will be done. The higher roof and crossflow breezes help a lot with temperatures. Time will tell, but the plan is for shadecloth for summer.

The birds have tried out their first patch of rain in the open ended section of the aviary as it rained last night. Some fo them were enjoying getting wet this morning when I checked on them. Today is windy with some more rain. i am working ...leadlights so I wont be moving any more birds in today. The weekend will see all birds in the new flights that will be going in.

Here's some photos

He was the sibling that his sister NASTY attacked in the nestbox and he came close to dying too as he wouldnt take the feeds I was giving him....so glad he turned around and started eating. The chicks had to leave the nest early as their Mum started laying again too early. He was bumped out of the nestbox at age 2 and a half weeks or so.

Oh I don't know .... he even looks pretty good in the blue container .... I'd have picked him there and then as a keeper.

Just noticed he has the key hole effect - drats! :fear HOW are we going to cut that out???? Doesn't it seem most of our best birds have it? :(

When you look at a budgie straight on the outline of feathers appears to nip in at eye level so it looks like a key hole as opposed to being round faced.

Well yes, you are right, not only 5 years ago that is what was most desirable However, we are currently encouraged to breed round headed buffalo blow types!

How to breed that bird is a bit beyond me .... I'm thinking that pronounced backscull may play a part ... I don't know, hence my question, HOW ar we going to cut that out?! :D

This year I have seen a couple of the "new" bird on the bench but as yet they are few and far between.

you breed a bird to your own look ren you breed your own head your own stud too be reconized as yours

the buffalo head as you call it they are very nice but honestly we breeding birds here or perrshain cats :D

you want a big buffolo head bird then i say sell your flock and spend some dollors get 4 pair of this but belive me you will be buying in the keyhole birds to keep the fertility and the length

the buff head is easy to achive its a time and patience thing

and an eye for quality in features

nubbly is achiving the nice round headed birds

just ask her how long and what it involves

personlly

i know they will be out of fashion in no time

im breeding for my own look

as is nubbly and may i say doing bloody great job

splat and kaz also both have birds with certain look going off

take a walk to your aviry do you birds have their own destinkt look ????

if the answer is no then you need to reasece your breeding plan unless your happy just to breed birds not achive a name for your stud

i know what im aimming for

will be years mabe even 20 or more but im young have the time the patiance and the eye i belive (i mean an eye for what im aimming for not the eye to pair )

my plan is set was 3 years ago

im just gathering stock and playing till i have what i need to persue my start :D

buffalo out you watch
