Renee and Tony came over today to help get the aviary finished. Its so close to being done now, its not funny  Tony was good with filling holes between colourbond and concrete pad

007-19.jpg

and was very good on the drill.

Renee is a great organiser and Renee and I mostly did the perching. Renee cleaned the wire down with vinegar....smelt like a fish and chip shop in there :fingerscrossed:

We all installed the front window.

006-17.jpg

Yet to do.....

1. Clad front of aviary with colourbond, add any trim needed.

2. finish of tightening up and joining some of the wire on the popout section.

3, add a couple more screws here and there

4. I have to finish the window section from birdroom to aviary.

5. Ken has to check doors from birdroom and flights open easily and lock.

6. Wire mesh the front window

Then all done. :hap:

I put a small flight cage in one of the flights for the youngsters in it to get some fresh air until release.

okay sorry i seen this

The back wall will be my main melamine cages...the ones I have made in sets of three with dividers.....two sets along the back wall ( that's 6 wide by 4 high =24 cages ). The cages from the front wall into the centre of the room will be my wire cages in melamine units.....those I made are on wheels so I can move as necessary for different configuration or move to clean. Those units are vertical and three cages high.

That was the old planning stages of the birdroom which is now done..........ages ago....I was only talking about the back wall of cages ( 24 ) PLUS the other cages in the room as well as those. I actually have forty breeding cages.

Having raised several puppies, the smell of vinegar does NOT remind me of fish and chips...! ... :) ...

Looks great... but will the birds fly into the glass windows??? I'm sure not as you wouldn't have used them if they did...

As the windows are on the side and they will fly the length of the flight...they shouldnt. Also its why I put the perches in front of each of the smaller windows.....if they are tempted to fly at the windows they will land on a perch instead.

Many of the breeders in the UK have their internal aviaries built of glass so they have a really good view of their amazing birds. the birds soon get used to the glass and wont fly into it :)

I have started releasing some youngsters into the first secured area of the two flights so far. I am having to take legring details and photographs as I go to update my records especially as I had a programme crash earlier in the year. Mostly releasing some of Omelettes first clutches for 2009 and then others.

So far only one has found the high perches

003-21.jpg

the others are enjoying the perches at the windows and also are perching atop some of the kindie cages in there as well.

005-17.jpg

027-14.jpg

None hitting the windows, a couple thought they could fly through the corrugated iron sheeting :P

None of them are flying into windows...some are flying into the tin. More of them learning now how to use their wings and some lift and gain enough height for the perches :D

I went to grab a cute pied boy and he took off leaving all his tailfeathers in my hand, so he will have to wait to go out into the flights :P

it looks great Kaz. Can you take a picture that shows us the set up from a distance? Think backdoor then one every 4 or so metres as you get closer
