Very cool Kaz. Do you have to dismantle it yourself?

It has been dismantled and labelled for easy rebuilding. The seller is also going to deliver it for free delivery. We will have to buy two extra poles thats all.

BARGAIN!!!!

It did cost a fair bit, but cheaper than an aviary that size would have been and cheaper than a new patio section. Paid just over $700 for this one. BUT my plan is.......... a patio would work as we would then just build in the walls. We have the mesh and we have the metal for dividing it up, just need a little more colourbond.

Latest news is a new group that has been formed by the Western Asutralian Budgerigar Show Judges, has decided they want to do some BusyBees to help the "up and coming" novice breeders. They have approached me to say they would like to come one weekend and help us put the new aviary up. WoW !! So sometime soon we will have the flights done. How generous of them is that ? ;)

Today I created my budgie's herb garden. I had some wall planter pots in green, so I painted them in a colour that matches my birdroom ( birdroom is cream with steel blue trim ) and arranged to hang them under the window like a window box effect.

Some of the herbs are seedlings and the others are seeds waiting to grow. This way, as I prepare the birds soft food, I can just pick various herbs and add to the mix as I need to. I have two kinds of parsley, lemon balm, coriander, basil, oregano, and mint so far. I also have potted up a large planter with tomatoes.

:D

The security mesh on the window has flyscreen mesh on the inside so no chance of escapes

Renee is one wrecking crew all on her own !!!!! She took charge and had us organised in no time. No flies on Renee.

The aviary is down ( well most of it ) and we can now move onto organising the erection of the new section very soon. A few minor things to do first and then we erect the patio section that will be the new flights.

Here are some photos of our aviary dismantling........Renee and Tony feature in these photos.

Well My - what a set of flattering photos, thanks for that Kaz! :D

Actually we should have got a 'before' and 'afterwards' photo of the job we did today.

Kaz, Ken, Tony and I started work at 10am.

First job- clean out the aviary! We smashed old nesting boxes apart, stowed away discarded accessories and filled 2 rubbish bins with ****. That took us the best part of an hour and on the way Ken got a nasty electric shock from some live wiring :cake: .

Next job- tear the timber poles frame from the sides of the aviary, remove the brush wall cladding and separate the aviary mesh from the aviary frame.

Then Kaz got up on the roof and removed the colorbond and tin roofing while we continued to tear the aviary mesh down. Unfortunately she fell down and injured her knee and ankle. :(

Finally the we pulled out the supporting posts.

At this point (almost 2pm) we all agreed we were totally stuffed and feeling a bit like the walking wounded!!! :D

The larger new aviaries will be a few more weeks I guess.

In the meantime, my husband and I have almost finished constructing a new aviary off the side of the parrot aviary. As a lot of my birds have been in holding cages waiting for the new larger flights, I wanted them to be free to fly...so came up with a plan to add on to the parrot aviary for my birds until the new large flights are done. Should have it finished by the weekend. Its 3 metres long by 1.8 metres wide, and at the end has a triangular section that will hold triple doors. One into the safety area, one into the aviary, and the other door into my husbands parrot aviary.

So far we have the structure done, and roof. Have double meshed a space between this aviary and the parrot aviary in case of biting between birds and through single mesh and lined the side of the parrot aviary with corrugated iron....which becomes the back wall of this new aviary. I will also be lining the inside of the roof section with 2 inch thick polystyrene, then shade cloth and bird mesh to keep the birds away from the polystyrene. I have already found that the polystyrene reduces temperatures in my birdroom by at least 15 degrees C.

We are using spare materials we already have.

Would have worked faster but its been very hot here in Perth and we cannot work through the middle of the day out there.

Hi KAZ

I also have polystyrene roofing and it keeps the avairy ALOT cooler. I know whaty you mean about working in the hot days also. It will be good to see the finished product. Good luck.

Working slowly on the new smaller aviary, as the weather has been horrendously hot. Funnily enough under the roof of the new aviary keeps pretty cool. Hope to have it finished by Sunday.
