I don't know what to do really. Whether to leave it with her or what. I don't like the idea of addling eggs as I'm worried I won't do it properly and will end up with a deformed baby or something. Isis has eggs at the moment too, so if anything goes wrong, I have her to foster out to (although she is also a new mum). I am moving in 2 months time so she is cutting it a bit fine. Link to comment

The babies are starting to come out of the nest box now. However Izzy was trying to mate with one. The poor bewildered thing. It was asking for food and instead of being fed it was being beak bopped on the beak. Luckily Izzy is a push over and the baby was able to defend itself with out him getting grumpy or anything. They are really silly babies, they like to flap their wings at full speed inside the nest box and hit mum and brothers and sisters with their wings at the same time. The youngest baby is such a sweety. It always tries to snuggle into my clothing and today it fell asleep on my lap, all snuggled in. It's so cute. Also, my babies are getting a little bitey. Any ideas? Are they "teething". Do all babies go like this. Or are they just extra naughty. Or are they trying to groom me but doing it too hard. Or are they trying to see if I'm edible. They tend to bite and ibble me and use their tongue the whole time. And they also do a bit of lunging. Best line of defense or attack would be...? Keep an eye on him and that he still does feed them after something like that. They are really silly babies, they like to flap their wings at full speed inside the nest box and hit mum and brothers and sisters with their wings at the same time. I think that is so funny to hear wings bashing everything and the others telling them off. Mine 'nibbled' hard as well, i think they are just learning about the world and don't realize they are hurting us. I either got something else to distract them or put them back down for a minute or two. Link to comment

I think they are just testing me to see what I am. Yes Izzy does feed them still. I suspect that one is a girl too. Thanks for the help. Edited January 14, 2007 by Sailorwolf Link to comment

When my babies are at this age and I dont want parents to breed again, I take the door off the nestbox and have a little ladder up to it for the babies. The babies can come and go and Mum doesnt feel like laying eggs in a vulnerable nestbox so she stops. If yours isnt set up so you can do that, replace the door with a see through one of plastic or glass. By the way....the babies are stunning !! Edited January 14, 2007 by Bubbles Link to comment

I've got two eggs from Saffron already and they are basically the same age as Isis's eggs so it wouldn't be too bad. It would also be ensurance for if Isis has problems, then I can foster her eggs out to Saffron. I'm also really hoping to get a green bird from Saffron too. Link to comment
