Will the newer, bigger avairy be cooler for the birds as well in that hot QLD heat??

Shed arrived today. It is in kit form. It will take about three weeks to put up. Until then the birds are enjoying a cooler time in the garage. Temperature today was up to 39deg C. We have bush fires between Nerwen and I. I am sure that in the old aviary it would have been 45 deg C and I would have lost a few birds.

The garage reached 33 deg C today. A lot better.

yes I'm hoping that little bit of rain we got in the afternoon either killed that fire or turned it to the firefighters favour.

All of my guys got a spray shower this afternoon when it was super hot.

Hey Daz,

Have been following this thread and it all looks great. I agree with Nerwen that concrete slab looks big. Cann't wait for more progress photos! Have you decided which birds you are going to cull? Wish I lived closer I would love some more breeding budgies!

Hi all sorry I haven't updated.

The Shed arrived Last week but I haven't had much of a go at puting it up.

I have been working at night on it and have dug the trench and put in the Cable to it.

I have also moved the walls across to the site. but thats all.

I am fast heading that way.. I've even decided how I'd like my ideal aviary to be set up too, after looking at some on the net. [shakes head] how did I get into this :D Although, in the next year or two I will be moving from where I currently am, so I need to not go too overboard now.

Looking forward to seeing pics of both yours and Bubble's avairies.

So what will it look like when you're done - will in have an outdoor flight?

There will be 3 internal flights 2.5mL x 1mW x 2.4mH each. 1 for cocks, hens, and young.

There will be a nursary cage 1.8mL x .400mW x .450mH, a holding cage of the same size and 15 breeding cages. I have also designed a hospital cage to go in the garage where they are currently staying.

There are two large windows on the end that will have the flights. I don't like outdoor flights as the birds can pick up deseases from the wild birds droppings.

I am going to insulate the shed and add a whirly bird. (Extractor). The cable that is going into the shed (lying on the ground) is enough to operate a small house. 7,680 watts. Air conditioning is a posibility. The shed will be lite using a timing system that will bring the lights on at 6:00am and off at 7:30pm. There will be a night light for the hens and chicks and emergency lighting in case of power failure. I also have power for normal use eg vacum cleaners and computers.

The only thing it doesn't have is running water. The owner will enjoy the excersize.

Looking great Daz. Re water. I have a dispenser for large bottled water with a tap. Its the kind where you have a base section with tap and up-end the large bottled water containers into the top section. I got the base section from a garage sale or swapmeet way back and now use it in the bird room for the birds. Saves a lot of trouble and doesnt take up much space :)

PS you dont have to keep buying filtered water for them if you dont want, just refill the large bottle.
