Hi thanks for your help I think I have this thing figured out now, finger's crossed this works

here are my 2 new budgies budgies010.jpgbudgies005.jpg okay I'm just getting used to how to do this so it might not work but if it does the white one is called winter and the blue/grey is stormy they are no longer in this small cage, coz they were both gettin a little bored in there I would find them both walking back and forward in the bottom like they wanted to get out, so I have moved them to a bigger outside cage, and stormy loves it he/she fly's around all the time from one perch to another and then kinda does loopty loops around the perch's and winter on the other hand she isn't as enthusiastic as stormy she doesn't seem to want to fly she will jump from one perch to another but when it comes to getting up and down and around the cage she prefer's to climb any idea's why? also anyone got any idea's on there age I know it might be hard to tell from the pics I was told winter was about 6 months........ anyway sorry this is rather long winded help would be great! :hap:

You have done well with the photos. :hap: You definitely have a male and female as you thought. Does your white female budgie have red eyes or not ? And if you can manage some other angles with your photos we can tell you what type they are .............Cheers karen

Okie dokie, I'll try hehe, no my white one doesn't have red eye's, these photo's aren't that great stormy wouldn't stay still I'm sure he knew I wanted to take a picture of him, also I wasn't sure if he was a male because around the outer edges of his cere it is pinkish purple and I had read somewhere if they were like that its hard to tell, but the centre of it is definately blue, okay here are more picture's knowing what they are would be great.... also thanks for all your help Karen :hap:

Males can have smaller nasel rings (my Merlin does) but the cere is a very deep blue a female would have a very light whitish blue cere.

So you do have a female (white one) and male.

As Bubbles says if you want do know the mutation a good shot of the back of them would be good.

okay this is the best I could do, stormy likes to show off when I walk out the back to the cage and wont sit still and I'm sure he know's I'm trying to take a photo of his back and I didn't get one of winter as she is just white all over she has no markings, and you can sort of see her to the left of the bottom photo I hope these help coz I would love to know what they are, the cage isn't that huge it is about 5 times the size of a normal indoor cage, I haven't got a photo of the whole cage sorry

Your male is a mauve opaline. Your female, if it has dark eyes could be either a Double factor spangle or a dark eyed clear. If the budgies are around 6 months only you need to remove the nesting box you have in the cage as they are far too young for baby making. Its best to wait until they are at least 12 months of age. Cheers karen

Hi yeah I know I have to remove the box I am doing it today when I clean the cage, I do have the opening to the box closed over with a bit of cardboard, I have asked this question elsewhere but maybe you could tell me can I put sand in the bottom of there cage? I have newspaper in there at the moment but it keeps getting blown around a bit and then the cage would be harder to clean I thought sand might be easier? oh and my female has dark eyes they look black to me

does Stormy have black or blueish tail feathers? If he has black tail, it means he's a grey opaline, if he has blue he's a mauve opaline like Bubbles mentioned.

As with Winter, She's either an albino (she will have red eyes), Dark Eyed clear (she'll have completely black eyes) or a DF spangles (she'll have dark/black eyes with white iris ring around the edge, and she may also have very very faint blueish or greyish tinge on her body)

They are both absolutely gorgeous. And welcome with posting pics.

 I have sand in the bottom of my birds cage inside and also there play gym.. Its really easy to just sweep up with a dustpan and brush (the top layers) or when i'm lazy i stick the vacuum cleaner in there and suck up the top layer (just don't put the nozzle to close or you will end up with no sand left  )

Cheers
