Anna yor right having a cage outside is no different to having an avairy

it is slightly ie size if a cat jumps on a cage it will rock the cage maybe pull same over and there is no where for the bird to fly to so scaring it to death is more likley when in a aviary the cat can jump on but the area is a lot larger for the bird to fly away and it wont pull the aviary over plus aviarys should be double wired to protect your birds

But the cat just sits there (i was told) woulndt it do someting?

probably thats why i would deal with the cat

That is what I was thinking too hath. Personally I have 3 cats and even in my home I am cautious. When Pretty was in his small single bird cage I was always watching because Maxx or Molli could knock it over and plus there was no way for them to get away. Now the bigger cage I have which is considered an aviary but a small one on wheels they can get away from the cats and they can't knock it over. I feel safer with them in this cage then the other.

The other debate is that it is secure and it can't be knocked over that can be true completely but it comes down to is the cage really safe if the cat decided he wanted to do more then sit. And personally if it is just sitting there that is when I would deal with it like spray water at it get it off the deck so it doesn't come around. There are many more little birds in the wild he can watch.

You do what you feel comfortable this is a debatable issue as many other are on how birds should be taken care of but so are dogs, cats and kids so you do what you feel is best for your home. Everyone here has expressed excellent views.

Here where I live there some nasty wild birds - they have a hook on the end of their beaks. Many years ago I lost a budgie to one of these who attacked the budgie through the bars of his cage. :)

Supervise, supervise and then supervise!

Fortunately for us New Zealanders there aint many things that could hurt a budgie, outside in its cage in the countryside, only a magpie or possum (both australian I must say :dbb1:).
