O.k, Cloud and Beau have made the committment and I believe there will soon come the chirps of tiny beaks!

I think, I know Cloud is a normal Australian Grey but her love, Beau, I am wondering what he would be?

Here is Beau:

His color doesn't show true in the photo though. He has pale lavender cheek patches, extremely pale lavender blue edges on his wing feathers and pale blue on his neck which fades to white on his chest.

Also any thoughts on what we might get from their babies?

Stunning :)

I think another shot of dad would really help, one with out the wash from the flash. Right any he could be anything from a pied to a dilute.

Cloud is a Grey spangle. From what I can tell now you can get 50% spangles (either grey or blue) and 50% normals (grey or blue)

Here is another picture of Beau without the flash:

Heather006Custom.jpg

And another of this couple that may help.

birds002Custom.jpg

Beau is white all over except for the pale lavender cheek patches, extremely pale lavender blue edges on his wing feathers (you have to look hard to see, even in person) and pale blue on his neck which fades to white on his chest

Hope this helps

;)

thanks for the extra pictures ;)

I believe Beau need to move to my house for one

But really I think he is a dominant pied Spangle Opaline. And possible a form of dilute as well for the palness of colour. I say opaline becuase you state about the blue (lavender) colour on the wings.

(Laughing out loud)! Thanks for that Nerwen! But Beau stays here! He is a beautiful boy, also the shyest of my birds so that makes it hard to get a good photo. He was one of "twins" when I went to the breeder to pick a bird, of course I couldn't pass him by! ;)

So, spangle babies...I can't wait!

As for Beau, don't rule out DF Dominant Pied. ;) Does he have normal iris rings?

"double factor dominant pied"

Could someone break this down for me into English? :0

I have been doing some reading on genetics but I think it will take me some time yet to "get it".

Pied I know, but Beau is so white I would never have picked him as pied.

I'm confused!

well he isn't just a pied either he has other genetic showing as well.

But just the pied bit:

A dominant pied only needs one pied gene and one normal gene to appear as a pied. But if the bird gets two dominant pied genes (one from each parent) then the pattern of colour on the body changes a bit, the patches become smaller is the major one.

Hi All!

I have dug this thread out of the archives so you will know who I am talking about! I have a new question regarding Cloud and Beau....

This couple have been together for 7-8 weeks now, Clouds cere, since being in with Beau has gone from pale to dark brown. I have seen flirting, courtship and mating but no eggs as yet.

Am I being impatient or could Cloud have gone through "menopause". She was a pet shop "rescue" bird, so I have no idea how old she is except to say she was an adult as her cere was very brown when I bought her home.

Or are some hens simply unfertile. (I know the answer to this one really!)

Would you keep being patient or should I give up and return them to the aviary?

okay how long have you had her? 7 or more weeks is a long time for no eggs. Removal of the box for about a week and readding it might help her to check it out this time, but if nothing after another month give them a longer break.

Thanks Nerwen for your thoughts. I have had cloud for about 5 months and she has been in and out of the nesting box and chewing it for nearly a month now. I will try what you suggest, remove the box for a time and see how we go...

How old is Beau? Was he a baby when you got him? If he is under a year or so, he may not have this mating thing down yet. It sometimes takes awhile for the males to get enough balance to even attempt a successful mating. And the first several times usually end up with the female becoming angry because the male is so clumsy. I remember Rainbow used to fall forward and off over Skittle's head, LOL, until he figured it out. Does he feed her very often? He should be almost running her ragged with his attentions. If she is chewing, she is probably interested, but it is possible she is not quite ready yet. The color of Cloud's cere when she came to you is not a very good indication of whether she is old or not, so it is possible she is too old to breed, but I think with her coloring the pet store would not have had her very long because she is pretty. If they are in fact a young pair, it may just take awhile before they become very bonded and feel like starting a family.

And also, another note on the doublefactor dominant pied - when paired with a normal all babies will be pied, as that is the only gene to give.

Thanks for your thoughts Rainbow. I have had Beau from a baby and he is now 2 years old. I am not sure of Clouds age, I spotted her in one of those tiny pet shop cages and just had to bring her home!
