Hi all. As some of you would know I went to an auction today. I came home with two birds. Unfortunately I couldn't stay for the whole auction.

New Bird.

Guess the Sex & genetic?

I also came home with another one but the photos isn't the best. I'll have to get a better shot.

Yeah I would have thought he was opaline too. Nice bird daz. What mad you pick him? And don't say the cost (Laughing out loud). What are the good bits on him? I would guess stance, and chest area?

Has he got a name yet? Can we help with that? (Laughing out loud)

Any plans on who to pair him to later??

Oh yeah heaps of questions. Hope to see the other one soon.

One more question... care to lend him to me (Laughing out loud)

Ya know Daz, as much as I think you're right with the non opaline, I am still going to say that he is an opaline spangle!! No camera can give that blue to a bird unless it was there to start off with!! It's just not possible to turn black into blue just like the body colour flash or not flash.. How about a picture of him without the flash?!?! I'll be d***** if this guy isn't an opaline!!!

I see where you are coming from Cheeta and I was thinking the same thing but the head doesn't look opaline at all. Another picture without flash Daz?

Lovey, I understand what you mean by the head colouring as well, but check out what Bao's head used to look like before she was lost to the world. She was an Opaline.

Wow, what a beautiful bird! The colors are amazing.

Male would be my guess.

Am I seeing things, or does he have some sort of fringe around his feet?

****edit**** Okay, now I see he is stepping on a small feather :D

What a stunning bird Daz. I can't wait to see more pics of him. He sure looks sky blue in that picture. My guess would have been opaline sky spangle.

You have me thinking... I am at work so i'll have to have a good look when I get home.

I picked him because of the stance, shoulders and mask. (White fethering below the beak) He also is a bit of a show and likes to blow (Puff up his head feathers).

He hasn't got a name... any ideas?

I am pairing him to the other new bird which is a Grey Opaline. She is a tall bird with very good mask and spots.

To Hath.. Coffee pot and tea pot.

Sure, I'll try to get another shot this afternoon, i'll see how I go.

What a beautiful bird. How much was he Daz?

He was a good price $70.00au.

nice bird daz i have on very similar

Thanks Hath I have a chance to get some spangle hens off a club member so might try next season for a double factor spangle.

I think his name should be Prince. All the show birds should have regal names. They look so pompous!

Any thoughts of breeding the new grey hen to Ash?

Interesting

Ash is a Cinnamon Grey (sf)

The new hen is an Opaline Grey (sf)

Offspring would be

Males

Greys (sf), Greens and Greys (df) all split to Cinnamon and Opaline

Females

Cinnamon Green, Cinnamon Grey (sf) and Cinnamon Grey (df)

I need to look up Grey Double Factor as I haven't seen one before. :ausb:

Don't daz!! I remember reading that once you have a DF grey in your stock it's hard to remove the grey gene.

I sent you a message this morning with a name Idea for the spangle blue - Apollo :ausb:

Where did you get the other two??? I'm on the market for three more birds!

No I don't like the idea of a double factor Grey. I wont be pairing the two up. Yes they are a bit like a violet. Once in your flock they can cause some fun with the colours. :ausb:

Got your message and love the name... Apollo it is.

I got them from a member last night at the meeting.

I have some chicks in the nursary. Skyblue greywings from Karen's Dominent Pied. It turns out that my first Cobalt, Bluey, is split to greywing. I have males and females. :D

I'll put a cuppa on if you want to see them.
