Handfed babies are struggling. The youngest, although feeding is fading and I fear it won't be with us by morning. The eldest (DF Spangle) is doing better, but not brilliant either. It is a sad thing to try so hard to bring them back and lose. :)

Kazza, if you ever feel the need to, I am more than happy to help with hand feeding the 'reject' babies. The only thing is of course they'll need to come and live with me for the time that I'm looking after them. I have a brooder set-up that I use for my quail babies, that should be okay to use as well for budgie babies. Just let me know hunif you want me to do that for you. If by any chance I have success in handrearing the baby, I'll of course bring it back to you when I know that it can crack seeds and eat on it's own.

I know you're doing the best to save these babies, but sometimes like you said, nature knows best. :) But keep in mind what I've said. May be it'll make it easier for you to take care of the rest of your beautiful flock.

cheers

:) Thanks so much Cheeta. If I were to give you a baby to try and rear, the effort involved of course would mean you would simply have to keep the baby :) Good excuse to tell husbands ...........

The two babies are under a heated lamp in the hospital cage and so far are still with us. Eldest baby is preening....a good sign maybe. Youngest still not good. :)

Both babies are still here. The youngest and weaker one is still pretty weak but sits up and preens its feathers. I am doing the best I can, so we shall see how it turns out.

Well they made it through the night. Last night I was at my youngest daughters for tea. I took the babies in a budgie box and fed them there. The youngest spent the evening tucked into my cleavage in a tissue for extra warmth :bluebudgie: They have had their breakfast and now have had their lunch.

Here's hoping ..........

..............but not a nesting box in sight :ausb:

:hap: Glad your little ones are doing so well, they are very cute! I have always appreciated bras for the warmth they provide babies, think I have brought a couple of finches or so back that way at the wildlife shelter. :hap:

Youngest baby is fading fast. I have tried all and it just keeps failing with this little one. It eats but body heat is dropping and warmth of the lamp is making no difference. :ausb:

Eldest baby (DF Spangle) has discovered the joys of eating since I mixed some chicken and corn babyfood in with its hand rearing formula. So far so good there. We may have turned a corner with that one. :dbb1:

I know nothing but can you add heat by putting a heating pad on low under them too?

The heat of the hospital cage is right for them.

Youngest baby just died :ausb: :dbb1:

The eldest baby.....little baby DF Spangle is cuddling on my chest right now. Waggling its tail and preening. I have better hopes for this baby :angel1:

I hope he will Lovey. They are such fragile beings and it can turn very quickly. Must give him a strong name to boost his chances........I think it's a HE :dbb1:
