Dark Eyed Clear is a recessive pied and a clear flight dominant pied

 

Both parents were carrying the recessive pied gene so he got that from each of them.

 

And one of the parents you are saying the Dad? Was a dominant pied was he a clearflight?

 

Putting those 2 genes together clearflight pied and a recessive pied equals your dark eyed clear.

Definitely a dark eyed clear then. Mum was a dominant pied and Dad the lutino. I can get more details if need be as I didnt see the parents but I am sure can get photos of them. The little grey budgie above described as a grey clearwing by the breeder is also a sibling from same nest.

In addition to a dark factor, budgies may also have a degree of dilution. There are four types of dilution: greywing, full-body-color greywing, clearwing, and dilute. Greywing budgies have grey markings on head and wings instead of black, and the body feather color is about 50% diluted (washed out). Full-body-color greywing budgies have the same grey markings of the greywing but the body color is brightened (not lightened or diluted). Clearwing budgies have very light or no markings on head and wings and the body color is brightened (not lightened or diluted). Dilute budgies are washed out all over. The head and wing markings are very light, and the body color is about 80% diluted (washed out). I notice the grey has a couple splotches in the front he could be a dominant pied. Do you have a shot of the back of him?

The breeder is describing him as a grey clearwing pied...... I can try for other photos tomorrow.

I agree but he would have to be a dilute too included since clearwing is a bright body. He is super gorgeous.

Gilligan is a sweetie. I will take more photos tomorrow and Cheeta is coming over too ....and another show budgie breeder is coming (to identify my red eyed yellow baby with cinnamon wing markings and green on body).

you can not have both clearwings and dilute on the same bird. it's either dilute or clearwings. they use the same 'strain' of recessive gene. If that make sense.

Then it couldn't be a clearwing alone because the body is too diluted from what I am reading. Clearwing has a normal colored body not a washed out one.

 

BUT clearwing can be co-dominant with greywing and the greywing would be causing the dilution in the body color.

The clearwing variety has very light wing markings and a bright body color. The greywing variety has grey markings on the wings and a 50% diluted body color.

Wing markings look to be in the dominant pied patterning so could this be a dilute dominant pied ?

what would make the markings on the wings so light then? you think the just the dilute gene? Possible

I don't know a lot about genetics yet, but looking at him....the wong pattersn look exactly like a dominant pied wing pattern but these are in pale grey as is the rest of him. With the mother being a dom pied and Dad a lutino, it's possible ? maybe ?

If he is a a greywing with the co-dominant dilute that would mean

 

1 parent budgie split is split for greywing and the other budgie is split for dilute" which gives them a 25% chance of having a greywing.

Mars is a brighter color, I think the question is the dilutation part. The question is can they be dominant pied and greywing together. I am still learning too so don't know but if the explanation above is right then yes would be the answer.

The wing markings are pale grey and only at the top section of the wing as in the classic sort of V shape of a dominant pied patterning. The rest of the wing including flights is white with no more grey...like a clearflight pied.

 

Cheeta will be here later and maybe we can get some more photos and her opinions upon seeing in reality too. I have no clue what he is.

The show budgie breeder was just here (she is a member of a rare budgie breed club) and she saw Gilligan and says Dominant pied dilute grey. Cheeta was just here and says same .

Yes. Excellent. The grey threw us for a bit. You teach me a lot Lovey and I will try to learn more but I think genetics is easier for you than me

 

Perhaps you can tell me for the future...the best type of partner for Gilligan.

I don't think I may be that advanced but if you wanted diluted babies remember you have to pair him up with another dilute or one that is split for dilute.

 

And grey is a dominant gene over normal too so you know that if you breed with a normal you will still get greys but the grey can affect the color of the yellow and blue as does the violet gene.

 

Of course you know how to get more dominant pieds .
