okay all the babies will be green unless both parents are split for blue

25% df spangles

25% normal

50% sf spangles

any opalines will be females

mom could be a dilute? if he is carrying the dilute gene you could have some dilute babies.

As for Clearwing the marking are light so I don't think so. But if he had it would be recessive so both would have to carry the gene to carry it on into their off spring.

you know this would be a great visual way for our members to learn if you had the time (Laughing out loud) to post 2 parents and the eggs and then ask for the results of what could be and when they feather up for us to see post what the babies look like and see how the % came out. Certainly would be interesting ;)

Well we have four babies so far and that might be it. No other eggs have hatched for about 3 days or so. Will update. :)

One of Honey and Luigi's babies died through the night. It had a huge air bubble in it's crop and no food...just a balloon of air. :( But another egg hatched too so there is still four babies in there.

We have two new babies from this pair Slick and Sadie's xz002.jpgxz001.jpg

They are, without a doubt, the tiniest baby budgies I have ever seen come out of an egg !!

and Honey and Luigi's 4 babies seem to have two with plum coloured eyes

Luigi and Honey xxx114x-1.jpg

:D

and the four feathered babies in Pina and Tiki's nest keep jumping out of the nestbox....each in their turn. Every time I turn around another one is out of the nest or two or three ...haha. Not quite ready yet though.

I agree with Lovely it would be a great way to learn. I am also enjoying the mutation lessons we have been getting on the forum. Although I am sure it will take me many years to learn it all!!

You always have such lovely photos. Thanks for the photo of the little guy with the change in cheek patches, I had never seen it before and am still dumbfounded at the ability of these little birds to amaze me with their complexities.

Two babies from this pair Slick and Sadie xz002.jpgxz001.jpg

I was expecting recessive pied babies from this pair and looking out for plum coloured eyes but they are dark eyes. Dad seems a bit ambiguous as to type....but he has no iris rings so I guess he must be a recessive pied. But he has spangle markings too. I'm not sure of what he really is :P

I can't get over how tiny these two babies are....like little premmies :P:wub: but doing well and first time Mother is feeding them well.

** Luigi and Honey have four babies and two that seemed to have plum coloured eyes...one so far may actually be an albino.

When that spangling is so defined it makes them look like they have angel wings. They are gorgeous.

I see what you mean about the spangling on the recessive pied I didn't think those 2 genes could express themselves together. One being dominant and one being recessive. Maybe not a recessive pied after all but a dominant spangle?

I think the spangle and recessive genes uses different allele, therefore are able to show in one bird. I could be wrong though...

Funny thing about this boy....he looks like a dominant pied spangle by the way his colour is distributed over the body, but he has no iris rings, or at least in the one eye I was looking at

if you take a picture of him with flash in a certain way the plum will show I know it does with Pretty. Or take a flashlight and see if you can see anything. I agree he looks more dominant then recessive.

Am I wrong here ? Recessive pied to recessive pied breeds recessive pied babies YES ? And recessive pied babies can be recognised by the plum eyes they show when they are born YES ? These two babies are showing black eyes .

It is like 2 people who have blue eyes their kids will always have blue eyes no if what and buts (at least that is what I learned in human genetics)

I could be wrong in my remembering here, but I don't think the plum colour has to show up while they are bubs.

Stunning pictures yet again karen :budgiedance:

it is a hard thing to see I didin't see it on Pretty at all until I took a picture of him and posted it here and Nerwen saw it confirming him as a recessive :budgiedance: But then I didn't know what I was doing back there either (Laughing out loud)

All my recessive pied babies are showing plum eyes at birth so far. A new baby born today to two recessive pied parents show plum eyes also.

*********************************************************************

Yet another new baby today to Honey and Luigi making five babies in there. The three youngest showing plum or red eyes.

A new baby (their first) to Romeo and his new bride Farrah (plum eyes). Both parents recessive pied.

The first baby to Bloo and Atlas shows red eyes so looking like an albino in there maybe.

Feathered babies in Tiki and Pina's nest keep jumping out of the nesting box into the breeder cage. :ausb:

A new baby today in the nest of Slick and Sadie making three babies in there 3 eggs to go. I forgot to mention too Slick is split to blue. Slick had a name change ....he was previously SPOT.
