  1. My 1.5 years old budgie started to act strange. He isn’t chirping anymore, he used to sing all the time. He also looks fluffed and tired. He is sleeping more. I have took him to the vet they said he is fine. But i can tell somethings wrong beacuse he isnt acting like himself. I have been giving him vitamins.
  2. Hello everyone. I am new to this forum and in need of urgent advice. Basically, I have a clearly very sick budgie that I am unable to take to the vet, the reason being that there are no vets that look at birds in my city. Either that, or I am unable to find one (I live in Cairo, Egypt by the way). I have attached a photo of what my budgie looks like right now. He's been unable to stand properly for a few hours, and be lost his balance and fell to the bottom of the cage a few hours ago, which is when I understood that something was very wrong. I knew he was sick previously, however he seemed to be recovering after being given antibiotics (which I got from a different country). Anyway, I am currently watching him very closely and keeping him in the place where he is really comfortable (the hood of my hoodie) and offering him food and water. He didnt drink much water but he ate lots of millet, which made me feel a bit better. He keeps going in and out of a lying down position, sometimes trying to get up and moving his head around. He also can still fly, as he did several time around the room. He cannot stand though, and he loses his balance. One foot seems to be injured (or paralyzed?). His feathers look normal however his dropping have been wet and had rings of green surrounding them on the cage lining. He hasn't been pooping consistently, only about 3 times in the last 3 hours. He has basically been lying down on me for the last 3 hours, occasionally eating and flying away 3 times. So yeah, his wings seem to be fine. His breathing seems to be fine but previously, about a week and a half ago, his tail was bobbing a lot as he breathed. That's about all the information I can provide. I need urgent advice as to how I can help him (taking him to the vet not being possible unless someone knows an avian vetererarian in Egypt in the Cairo area). Please reply if you are able to. Thank you. If anything changes, I will reply to this post.
  3. Hey guys I have a baby budgie about 25 days old. He/she is too small for its age. The other babies younger to it are much bigger (double in size). But this one is too small. He/she is of the same size as it was a week ago. But feathers and fur grows quite well. Mother feeds them daily. He/she is not so active, either sleeping or just looking around. I tried hand feeding it 3 times. It ate very little food. Also, I think he/she is not able to stand properly. He/she leans towards one side and takes heavy breaths Can you guys please let me know if anything is wrong? Uploading a video taken today April 25, 2020. This video is taken just after hand feeding him VID_20200425_141515.mp4
  4. I have a male budgie who is a few years old and having balance issues. My mum called me frantically and said he was flailing his wings in the air. I ran in thinking it might be a stroke, but he climbed back up to the perch and is constantly swaying from side to side. He’s trying to move from side to side on the perch but the swaying is making it hard. He can fly just fine. He’s had 3 clutches of eggs with his mate in his life. I moved him into a new cage yesterday to make room for my new princess parrot. I was keeping him with his youngest babies who are about 6 months old since one of the budgies in the bigger cage was aggressive towards them, but since they’re older now he’s leaving them alone. He seemed fine when I moved him, and only started showing these symptoms a few hours ago. I don’t know if he maybe has some sort of neurological issue, maybe he was hit on the head somehow? I don’t know how this has happened. I don’t know if it could still be a stroke, but that’s one of my ideas. He seems fine other than the balance issues. If there’s nothing I can do for him myself, do you think he’d be okay for another 2 days? I’m taking my eclectus to an avian vet to get her nails trimmed. Would I have to pay extra to take him as well? Vets are closed at this time, so I can’t take him right now. Also, with my new princess parrot, she’s accidentally come in contact with my other birds. I only got her today, but I’ve been seeing her for months. The pet shop I got her from said she’d been vet checked when she came in as they have a vet attached to the shop. It’s a good pet shop, I’ve never seen an unhealthy bird there. They keep the cages clean and give the birds fruit and veg. They said it would be alright not to quarantine her, but I’m still wanting to do that anyways. I don’t have a big house so they are in the same room, but her cage is far from the rest of the birds. But when I took her out, she flew to my other princess parrots cage. She seems healthy, except her flight feathers are clipped a bit too far down but that’s not going to effect the other birds. What should I do? They were pretty close to each other. What if she is sick?
  5. i have a female budgie who until recently was pretty normal. she started molting and her and my male bred. i dont think it was successful since she never laid an egg but now she is laying completely flat on her belly for most of the day. she has a very faint yellow staining above her cere. tail bobbing and seems to be having difficulty flying. I seperated her from the male in fear of her being sick and spreading it to him. im worried about her but she seems to eat and drink like normal. i know they miss each other as i put the cages close enough they can chirp at each other and not be too lonely. the male has now started humping EVERYTHING in the cage. could the female just be egg bound? if so what should i do? im use to Big parrots not small budgies but i love my birds and want to help them. am i over reacting and shes just ready for round two of the male or am i justified in thinking she may be sick? please help
  6. Hey guys, Just came over to my mums house and saw my sister's bird and it has like these dry looking scaly lumps grown around its face. Also has very scaly feet too. I asked my younger sister why she hadn't noticed and taken it to the vet or at least googled something but she's very ditzy and only young but i'm still mad she didn't tell my mum. It seems quite healthy though he chirps a lot and plays with its toys and has been eating normal. It's hand tamed and about 6 months old just for reference too and apparently my sister said it's been getting worse over time about 2 months after she bought him. So can anyone possibly tell us what maybe wrong with it ? *Please no hate or anything, we want advice so we can literally help it ! Thanks:)
  7. So I've had her for almost two months and I've noticed that the past few days her feathers have been very sparse around her nose and a bit around her eyes. I don't know whether I should be worried or if this is normal. Is it molting? Is she sick? Is it because she's naturally ready to breed? Someone please help! I've never owned a bird before and I'm worried there's something wrong. She's acting fine and eating fine, so I don't know if this is normal or not.
  8. The budgie I'm hand rearing has formula drip out of the sides when he is eating. I wipe it off but it has gotten large chunks in his cheeks and on his chest feathers. His cheek formula is connected to his skin so I can't cut it all away. His chest some of the feathers came out, stuck to others with formula. I cut that out, but then I saw what looks like two feather ends stuck under his skin, and they were bleeding from the tips. They stopped after not much blood, but I don't know what the things under his skin on his crop and how to deal with the large formula. They are too small to be cysts.about half a cm. Mum says when he moults it'll fix itself but he is only three weeks old. I can't afford a vet.

  10. I breed budgies in my aviary and I recently hatched a bunch of four. One of the budgies must be aggressive because 3 have sustained injuries. 2 have healed up nicely with some medication, but one received injuries to its lower beak. I gave it some antibiotics before going away for 4 days. I came home today to find the swelling gone, but one side of the beak is disconnected from the chin. I was planning on hand rearing one for the first time after owning budgies for a year and Im going to do this one. What will happen with the beak? He doesn't make any noise whatsoever that I have heard, while the others in the nest do. He is about 2 and a half weeks maybe? Im not sure how to upload pictures, this is my first post. Also any tips on hand rearing will be appreciated.
  11. Hi all. So we have had Flynn for about 2 months now. We got him from a breeder at about 7 weeks of age. About 3 weeks ago, we started noticing that Flynn was having more frequent sneezing, to the point where he would have sneezing fits - continuous back to back sneezes, about 6 to 8 in a row. This eventually started getting worse, where he would have back to back sneezing fits - three sneezing fits of 6 or so sneezes back to back .... the poor little thing!! We did notice that he seemed a lot more lethargic and was sleeping more... but his droppings were normal, there was no fluid from his beak and everything still seemed okay. But we took him to the vet last week who said that he possibly had some sort of bacterial infection in the back of his throat and gave us some antiobiotics to give to him twice daily, into his beak. The vet said Flynn had about 10-20% bad bacteria which was assessed from his throat/dropping sample (budgies normally have about 2% bad bacteria), so he said this could possibly account for the sneezing but he seemed a little surprised it wasnt a higher percentage. He said Flynn also had "budgie boogers" - staining about his cere which indicated he had been sneezing quite a bit. The vet told us about chlamydia and asked us to test for it but we declined as the test was an extra $130!! The vet said that if Flynn didnt improve then he possibly did have chlamydia (which is fatal!). Anyway, we are 5 days into treatment. I have to say after about day 2 we noticed a huge change in Flynn's behaviour - he was much more active and playful. Previously he would fall asleep around 7.30 or 8pm but on day 2 he was playing with us well past 9pm! I have to say that this improvement seems short lived though.... over the weekend Flynn had a sneezing fit on both saturday and sunday - about 6 to 8 sneezes in a row again, but it wasn't back to back fits like before (could this be considered an improvement!? i don't know!??). He seems better than when we initially took him to the vet but I don't feel that same level of alertness/playfulness that we observed on day 2 is there. So Im a little worried that these antibiotics are a short term solution and not going to get rid of the issue 100%. Flynn still has staining above his cere as well - it seems to have reduced a bit, but it is still present. I just wanted to ask if anyone out there has had experience with something similar before and if they have any advice??? I guess at this point I need to finish the course of antiobiotics and even though I may be getting ahead of myself, I am a little skeptical that it is working as the vet said we would "almost have a new bird" after several days into treatment! I don't think we will take him back to the vet to be honest for financial reasons.... the first bill was $200 and I guess if he doesnt get better and may have chlamydia, then the 6 weeks intensive injection course is going to be very expensive!!! I have been reading about raspberry cordial and how it can do wonders for sick budgies but Im wondering if poor flynn may be a bit beyond this stage!?? Any advice/info would be much appreciated!! Cheers!
  12. I have two green budgies: Male and Female. I came home today and went to go check on my birds. However, once I checked that inside the cage the male budgie was at the bottom of the cage, and it had puffed up feathers. Then when I reached my hand in the cage it went on a perch. It was still puffed up and standing on one leg. The top of its head was also strange, as the feathers covering the head were uneven. What should I do? Is my budgie sick? I'm very concerned for my budgie I don't want it to die
  13. Hi, tonight my sister in law dropped off a little blue budgie she found on her doorstep. It was fretting so she caught it and brought it over to me because i own two cockatiels, a quaker and an eclectus. I willingly took it in as an animal lover, put it in a spare cage i had and upon closer inspection i noticed possible abnormalities on its little face and feet. It kind of looks like overgrowth or maybe it has been hurt? Or maybe it is nothing at all. I have provided some photos, if you have any idea what it is please let me know, I am scared of it being actually hurt. Note: the budgie doesn't seem to be in pain, it is content on sitting on a perch all fluffed up and it has had a bit of water and a little bit of food but he keeps picking at his sore foot and can't seem to keep his eyes open. http://i.imgur.com/NXO3RIa.jpg http://i.imgur.com/DQLNtVz.jpg Edit: the claws on its feet are actually bound together with skin, is this a deformity or some sort of infection?
  14. Hi there, Im just hoping someone can really help me figure out this growth on my budgies back. He is a about 7 years old and seems to be normal healthy, I hav ent noticed any changes in his day to day activities or his poop. He was preening one day when i noticed a black growth on his back above his tail feathers ( near the oil gland perhaps? ) The growth has taken a claw like shape and pretty much looks like a gross overgrown claw. The part where the growth is attached to his back seems like it could be filled with pus. The growth is very hard and did soak it in some warm water, but it didnt get any softer. Does anyoneknow what it could possibly be and if it can be removed at home? Or anything that i can do to help it? anyone know how i can put up pics also? i ahve pics of his growth Thanks so much im really worried
