Hi im new here i beleive i nay have an odd budgie ? okay well ive had him a couple of mnths, hes 8 mnths old, from a flock off a breeder, he settled in rather quick and its content.. But thats not the issue! okay hes escaped the cage once and had to catch with a towel, hes been on my finger twice by accident, he hates hands, will eat millet stick because its a distance and took ages to get him to, but the second my finger goes near him hes off. I hold my hand in constantly hes not botherd, ill fumble and rearange his toys hes not botherd, he also dont even play with anything, he climbs about, has a mirror which he will socialise with but no interest in a human. Hes always been that way. It breaks my heart because im so persistant and been at it for ages, and hes just not interested to bond or play I was told he was semi tame and realise it was a lie, he hates hands. I offerd some peices of orange but nahh hands too close, its millet or nothing with this one.. Makes me sad he just shows nothing and plays with nothing just sits there babbling and climbing..

In the western USA, in Oregon, Portland region, there are precious few Avian Vets. Having moved to 6 miles south of Lake Oswego area; a fancy Portland suburb where there is a bird vet, I decided to drive to the avian veterinarian’s office to meet the doctor, be aware of travel time and say hello. I wanted to know the face of the doctor who might meet my four budgies. I found the office a frantic place, due to a number of emergency visits; bird owners sitting nervously in the waiting area. I still have yet to meet the doctor, of course, with the pandemic, it’s not likely to be soon. However, i was told that a “well-bird” checkup would cost $84 dollars a budgie, with possible $150 per bird if any test was needed. Budgies in the Portland Oregon region retail for $25 each. DNA gender tests can range from $45 to $60 in young budgies. I found out that in some pieds and other mutations, cere color and detail can sometimes not be a trusted indicator of gender. There needs to be a safe way for serious bird keepers to learn how to ? DNA test our own birds correctly. $150 a budgie for a simple test is too steep for my budget. We must find a better way.

I'm very new to birds. Inhave never owned one in my life ever until about two weeks ago when i got my first bird. He(im assuming) has been super chill from start with hands being near, around, or in the cage. Nothings ever seemed to really startle him easily either. He even just learnes to perch on my finger! Recently, about five days ago we decided to get a new bird, a bad idea in my opinion for multiple reasons at the time. The new bird is a little more active than Gunter, my first bird, and i often see Gunter copying everything TNB, the new bird, does. Like playing with toys he never seemed interested in. But the bad thing about TNB is that he somehow made Gunter completely afraid of us just like TNB is. Gunter and TNB fly all around the cage whenever around hands come near them. It's making me very upset because i've just started bonding really well with Gunter, and TNB is making it really hard to keep doing that. Can someone please tell me why this is happening? :-( I'd also like to add that we put Gunter in a new cage before getting another bird AND we left them both alone together for about four days without much human contact at all. I know that all sounds so horrible and i did not want to do any of that stuff at all at the time we did it. (TNB is yellow and Gunter is Blue)
