Oh no what I meant by mum flew away was she flew away she is nowhere to be seen. Baby is doing really well although she woke me 4 times last night. The first time I could see there was food still in her crop so I made sure the box was warm enough and settled her back down about an hour and a half later (around 3am) she had an empty crop.
The formula in giving her says last feed at 11pm and first feed at 6 am but she was starving and had nothing in her crop so I fed her. Then again at 5 she woke me hungry again and then again only one hour later. Her crop is getting full every time I feed her and she only has one small air bubble in there after her feeds. Now I'm wondering if the formula is just not a good type (vetafarm) or if maybe I should make it thicker.
The directions say a thinner formula for the first 3 days and then a thicker one so I am mixing it according to the thinner directions but I'm thinking maybe she may need the thicker one early.
I did try getting my male to take over but he didn't, my male is 2 and a half and my female was 3 this was my females second clutch she had 3 hatch but two died shortly after hatch. It was the males first clutch and he was still getting the hang of his duties. I breed chickens ordinarily and have only just started breeding budgies this being my 2nd clutch over a year. I can find heaps of info on feeding and hand rearing from 2-3 weeks on but I need to know hand reading from hatch as mum flew of less than 24 hours after her hatch. As I'm only just starting these are my only breeding pair so I could foster either.
I'm keeping her in a shoe box with a round hole cut in the top where I am using by chicken broader light to warm her I have been keeping the temp between 35 and 36c. I'm using a feeding spoon and she has taken to it like a pro it gets a bit messy but she definitely know how to feed from the bent spoon. I keep her formula at 38c while feeding it to her because this is what the vetafarm packet said. So other than all of that I don't know if there is anything else I should be doing. Her skin looks maybe like its a bit dry so I wasn't sure what I could do for that.
If anyone has had to do this before any advice would be appreciated
