  1. I agree with what everyone else has said. When I brought home my little budgie (also hand fed) he didn't eat at first or drink. After a little while he would eat spray millet but he still was nervous and not moving around his cage at all; I was totally freaked out (Why isn't he drinking?? He should be drinking and playing and chirping!!!) LOL He didn't actually start making any sound for several days. And it also took a couple days for him to get used to moving around in his cage, but because he was hand fed and used to people he would come out and climb around on me even before he was comfortable in his cage! So I wouldn't worry about your little budgie. He loos healthy to me and as long as he's eating he should be fine. Budgies dont drink a lot of water anyway, and they can go for a little while without water. He will find his water eventually. Good luck! Cado looks like a very sweet little budgie!
  2. He is an adorable little fellow Is that him in your profile picture too? It is excellent that he is hand fed! I got my little budgie Allen from Finnie and he was hand-fed and tame when I got him. I definitely think that getting a hand fed budgie is worth it It was so much easier to tame him than I'd expected. Good luck with your little guy!
  3. Here is another couple picture of Allen. Trying to look tall And being cute and fluffy...

Hello and welcome to the forum Sorry to hear of the loss of your Charlie Good luck with the rest of your birds.
  5. I hope everyone and their birdies are doing well :)

  6. My budgie loves his swings and he loves bells too. I dont think mirrors are a good idea because the budgie might bond with the bird in the mirror and not with you. My budgie doesn't have a mirror and he's happy, I don't think they're neccesary or even a good idea. My budgie likes to chew on string and papery materials, too. Good luck:)
  7. Wow, it really amazes me how much you know about budgie color genetics... I find it overwhelming and somewhat confusing..
  8. I vote rachelm. That is a beautiful picture of a sweet little budgie baby...
  9. All of your birds are beautiful! I hope the girl with overgrown beak gets better, she doesn't look very happy. Hopefully the beak trim will help her.
  10. In general male budgies are better talkers
  11. My budgie seemed to take forever to try veggies. At first I tried chopping up carrots and other veggies but he wouldn't touch them. Then I tried clipping small peices of kale in his cage near a favorite perch. Eventually curiosity got the better of him and he nibbled the kale; then it didn't take long for him to try other green leafy things like lettuce (now he wont eat kale but he loves lettuce..) He's tame so when I introduced other veggies I would eat them with him watching, and he usually can't resist trying something I put in my mouth, so in that way I've got him to like carrot and ocasianally other veggies. If your budgies aren't tame it still might work to eat new foods with them watching; when you don't die they think "well it must not be poisonous and it must be food"... Also, just choose a one food item in one shape/size and offer it every day and eventually they'll probably get interested and nibble it. My budgie tends to like green leafy things more than other veggies and ive read about other budgies having similar tastes. It probably has something to do with the fact that wild budgies eat grass seeds and sometimes they also eat the grass plants; they never really eat veggies or fruits in the wild. Putting peices of vegetables in the food bowl might also work... Good luck and be patient!
  12. I have one budgie, but even with just one it seems like he can produce a lot of seed hulls/feathers. I change the paper in the cage tray 2 or 3 times a week and clean the whole cage and vacuum around it once a week; while i am cleaning it I also rearange the toys once a week. That routine keeps the cage area clean enough for me. When he's molting its messier but its easy to vacuum feathers.
