  1. This was my first ever budgie auction and it was very interesting and exciting....I couldn't stay until the end though because my hubby was getting a little impatient, waiting in the car. ......and I bought a nice opaline cobalt cock bird for $80. Most of the birds were really nice, but I noticed that at least 2 of them had health issues (eye infection) and I am wondering why they were up for auction.
  2. Public holiday here on Monday . I haven't been to a budgie auction before and would be interested in how much a budgie at an auction goes for.....are there usually some that go for $50-100 or do most of them go for over $100 or more?
  3. your aviary looks great and i love the nest box design. can we see some more photos of your birds, please, i love violets.
  4. so sorry to hear about fred, gb, she was very special. i am sending you and your daughter lots of hugs.
  5. Thanks for the photos KAZ. It's very interesting. Love your show type greywings. My pet type greywing spangle has wing markings like yours and the quill of the main tail feather is also white and other tail quills are grey. It will be interesting to see my little guy after his first moult....green might get darker and the cheek patch might change.
  6. cool...I will hang up the washing and will be back shortly .
  7. I went there and had a look.....was very interesting to see all the different mutations....was the first budgie show I've visited so can't say much about the quality of the birds.
  8. Thanks guys. Thought so too....a greywing spangle. Maybe grey green or olive...hard to tell???
  9. What do the experts think....is this a greywing spangle or a cinnamon spangle? Thanks for your help.
  10. Thank you for the photos KAZ. It's very interesting to see the differences. So do you think my little budgie is a greywing spangle or something else?
  11. I will go and check for you later:D I do know, that now that they are moulted, the difference between the greywing spangles and my greywings is more obvious in their cheek ;atches. The ones that are greywing have blue cheek patches and the ones that are spangle greywings have two colours in their cheek atches.....the blue of the greywing cheek patch with the silvery colour of a spangle running through it. Anyway...........I will catch up the greywing spangles and take a closer look at their tails later today for you Greywing spangle on the left ( hen ) and greywing on the right ( cock ) note the cheek patches ? Thank you KAZ. I took some photos of the baby...hope it is okay to post them in your topic. I had another look and discovered that his main tail feather quill is white...but the smaller tail feather quills are grey....do you think this is a greywing spangle or something else? Not too sure coz the markings are not good.
  12. Hi KAZ, I love your greywings...very pretty! As you are a greywing expert and I also saw that you've got some green greywing spangles I have a question for you: Have your green greywing spangles a yellowish tail with a white quill or a yellowish tail with a grey quill? I've got a new little green baby here and I think it might be a greywing spangle. It's so hard to tell. All the "normal" spangles I've got here have a white tail quill so I am a bit confused. I will try to take some photos soon. Thanks, Lea
  13. Cool. I am getting better with identifying the mutations. It's my first greywing :-). Do the markings and the body color usually get darker after the first moult? The front is a really pale blue, but the feathers on his back (close to the tale) are darker blue.
  14. Pretty sure now that this is a little girl.....and her name is LIME. I got another budgie end of last week and compared to the new boy Lime's cere looks really pale.
  15. Another addition to my flock ;-). Think it is a greywing dominant+clearflight pied....maybe skyblue with violet factor...or cobalt? What do the experts think? Thanks for your help. This is Miles :
  16. Will try to contact the seller first. She only had a handfull of budgies and i think the breeder was a friend of hers....so shouldn't be to hard to find out....but if i can't find out i will check the ring code. Thanks for your help.
  17. Got some questions regarding the Australian ring colours: So, the ring colour in 2009 was red.....birds with red rings hatched from September 2008 to August 2009? Is the Australian ring colour for 2009/2010 BLUE? So, did a bird with a blue ring hatch in September 2009 or later? Thanks for your help. Ring colour for 2010 is BLUE and rings were issued early September 2009. Not everyone who got blue rings would use them in 2009 as there were differing schools of thought as to when people used them based on how many red ringers they had bred and if they were aiming for the Nationals. Thank you KAZ. Got a hen here with a red ring and wanted to find out how old she is. So she is a 2009 bird. Bought her from someone who got her from a breeder....will contact the seller to find out whether the hen hatched early 2009...would like to let her breed soon, but want to make sure she is at least 12 months old.

  19. hi gb, this is a lovely boy. i am trying to breed pet type lutinos as i just love lutinos, creaminos and albinos as you know . i have a lutino cock and a violet spangle hen sitting on 5 eggs at the moment....very exciting! in case you decide to not use this lovely boy please let me know. i would love to take him. good luck. lea
  20. hi joachim (nice german name ;-) , i think X8 means, that she hatched in 2008. sorry kaz - we must have answered at the same time.....but you posted it faster.
  21. Thanks for your help and yes, I took the photos without flash....just natural light from the window. The little one has very, very light brown areas under the nostrils...you can see it in the first photo....does this indicate that it is a girl? The lower part of the ceres looks purple.
  22. It means that mum and dad are spangles. 1+1=double
  23. I would like to pick a name for this little one....should it be a girl's or boy's name? I am not very good at sexing babies.....but think it is a girl....but looks quite purple...so not too sure????? Thanks for your help. Photos taken without flash.
  24. My greywing is definitely a greywing ...a pretty boy, KAZ. Here are some more photos of the little girl (think it is a female, but not sure).
  25. Thanks for your help. I haven't had a greywing, clearwing or dilute before so I don't have other budgies to compare. I went through all the clearwing topics and the pinned clearwing topic for hours to learn more. I find the budgie mutations so interesting and thanks so much for your help. I haven't had a young green series bird before either so i was confused to see the blue on bottom feathers and belly. The markings and the tail look sort of brownish - not grey. That's why I thought there was cinnamon involved. I might take some more photos today. It's really hard to take a photo of the color....color looks a little lighter in real life....photos turned out a litttle dark. Is Kaz Greywing a Greywing or a Clearwing too?
