  1. I just started taking my parakeet out of his cage a few days ago, I got him 14 days ago. When I took him out today, he flapped his wings and some blood splattered onto my finger! There are a few drops of blood in his cage and I think he may have just pecked himself. It's coming from under his left wing, I don't know what to do! The vet isn't open yet and I'm very worried! Please help me, what should I do?
  2. Thanks guys! I'm happy he's a boy, I've renamed him Mikey And thank you for the advice, I think we're going to be great friends. I feel so silly, I spent about an hour today just talking to him, we debated names and decided Mikey was best. We also talked about wild parakeets and how lucky he was to live in such a great home.. He's a great listener. And I'll be sure to cover his cage a bit earlier, and feed him some of the food you suggested, Neat. Thank you all for being so nice!
  3. Oh good, I'm glad he's normal. Thank you guys
  4. Okay, I'll try these things. It's like he learned the things in chapter 2 before he learned chapter 1. I hope he can be tamed. I'll keep you guys updated
  5. I just bought a new bird last week, and I am confused. He acts very strangely, it's kind of hard to describe, but I'll do my best. The first day I got him, he acted pretty normally. Nervous and scared, which I thought was completely natural. On the next day, I started interacting with him in small segments of the day, and he actually jumped onto my finger. Now, the guy who sold the bird to me at the pet store told me that he seemed used to human touch, so this might happen. Well, now he jumps onto my finger every so often but usually freaks out when I change his food or water. Today he flew out, right towards my mirror. He had no trouble getting back onto my finger, and he seems to already know step-up, which was very confusing for me. A few of the guides I read say that they should take a while to learn this stuff, but my bird seemed to know it already. So, my question is, what should I do? Where should I start with the taming, if he already seems to know step-up but is still scared to death of my hand? I know he's scared to death because he freaks out when I do anything with the cage. Also, he chirps sometimes but only at night, other than that he's completely silent. I'm worried!
  6. Thanks so much everybody! I tried to take another picture, but he freaked out and started flying around in his cage. Needless to say, I did not get another picture :hap: Now I'll just need to find out how to get him used to my hand and get him to learn step-up. Thanks for the name suggestions, I'll consider all of them.
  7. Hehe, okay. I'm convinced. She's a he. I wonder what I should re-name him?
  8. Haha, thanks for the advice. I'll be sure to pick some up then next time I go to the store
  9. Thank you! I'm surprised I understood what you said So if she is a he... then I need to come up with a new name. Thanks you guys, having a boy named Eva would have been embarrassing.
  10. Thank you Hmm, maybe you guys are right. I'll check again when he/she wakes up. If the fleshy part above her beak is purple, what does that mean?
  11. Thank you guys! I thoughts she was a he at first, too. Her name is Eva
  12. Hello everybody, I'm iRomance and I'm a new budgie/parakeet owner. I used to have a parakeet before, but I bought him out of pity because he was sick. He died within a week, and I felt terrible. It took me about four years to get over it, and now I have purchased a new baby girl. She's super healthy and I bought her just last week. I hope to be a helpful and happy member of this forum, and I also hope to learn new things about my new budgie. I bought a few books and did a ton of research before I bought her, so I know the basics. Anyway, I'm rambling now. I suppose I'll show you pictures! Any advice by looking at her is appreciated, just knowing that she's healthy would be great. I don't know if I can handle another death so soon. Please and thank you!
