  1. Hahahaha that is great! In the description is says this.... But what about protection against curious budgie beaks?
  2. Here in Buffalo, NY USA It gets Very cold in the winter and my house it kept at about 68 degrees F and the budgies don't seem to mind. Frankly 70F sounds warm to me... (Laughing out loud)
  3. that is the funniest story! :budgiedance: i can just see it happening ..like a cartoon! :yelling: silly budgies!
  4. Seems fine to me. When I had my budgies paired, the younger budgie always copied from the older budgie (when i say older i meant the budgie who was living there first, not always necessarily age). What the older budgie ate the younger would eat, when the older would preen the younger would preen. I think it is because the budgies have that flock metality. They learn from the older members of the flock, how and when to do things and which things are safe to do and when. There is usually a pecking order too, so the older budgie is usually in charge and cooridates what the other budgie is allowed to do.

    Window Perch

I cut two pieces of lexan which is a plexiglass alternative that doesn't get cloudy like plexiglass and is less likely to scratch (but plexiglass could be used too). The pieces were cut to 6 inches by 9 inches. I found two large suction cups with little nubs (a technical term ) on the end so the end of the cup could be pushed through a hole in the plastic. I drilled holes into the lexan slightly smaller than the ends on the nubs so the plastic doesn't slide off. Then i used two hinges and drilled holes in the lexan for those and attached with screws and nuts. I just used a 3/8 inch dowel and cut it down for the perch. I drilled holes in the bottom of the plastic and screwed in the perch from the bottom. To hold up the bottom half i used a clear plastic thread attached from the suction cup nubs to the screws holding in the perch. Yes.. i know the plastic thread won't last long because she will chew through it but it is just a temporary hold until i find a small bracket to hold it up. Make sure any materials you use are bird safe! The project is actually quite easy and cheap since i had most of the supplies and all the tools. But even if you have to buy all the supplies, i don't think it would be all that expensive. Here a small sheet of plexiglass is about 3 US dollars, the dowel was about 1 US dollar, hingers could probably be found 2 in a pack for around 3 US dollars, and suction cups are only a few dollars. Whether you use a small braket or thread or even fishing line to hold it up that will be another few dollars. It could be made for any sized bird too and without the heafty price that manufactures put on them. That is one of the reasons i made this. The poop just can get everywhere and on every thing. But it is not too difficult to clean up, this is just more of a convenience.

    Window Perch

Thanks everyone... Looks like my idea has taken off already and I have to open a factory. (Laughing out loud) I guess when your desprate for a solution and you find one yourself, it pays off. Now if I could only create a self cleaning cage...
  7. Opal really enjoys sitting on the window sill and looking outside but the problem is that she also really enjoys chewing the wood moulding on the window. So i drew up plans to make a window perch like they make for large birds but budgie sized so she can't get at the wood any more. Here is my finished product: She can see her reflection on the bottom too It also sticks to the mirror so she can talk to the other budgie without pooping all over the counter It really came out better than i expected!

  13. I would try some vocal encouragement. When they fly over for millet, praise them by saying 'good budgie' or things of the sort. Don't be too loud or startleing but be a positive presence and be excited. The praise can replace the food treat after a while. This is how i trained my budgie to fly over though it may be a slightly more difficult technique with two budgies.
  14. Found this cute video on you tube... check it out

    My Treasure

thats not a nice thought... :fear
  22. I haven't posted pictures of Opal in a long time. Here are a couple of her laying down on her tummy and sleeping on the back of the couch. Actually she is awake in these pictures because I tried to sneak up on her but she opened her eyes when she heard me. She hates the camera so I was lucky to snap a few of these. The other pictures are just a couple of her posing on the couch after I woke her up. Opal napping (kinda blurry because of the sneak attack) She realizes the camera is present and is not happy Fully awake now and planing her escape
  23. This is Opal my jewel... and accordingly she is in a jewelry box!
  24. In one of my courses we have to find a natural phenomenon and come up with a hypothesis as to why it occurs. The phenomenon that I am thinking about using is the fact that pet budgies (or all budgies that I have owned at least) chirp and chatter when they hear the sound of running water. My idea is that this may have developed in the wild as a way to notify other budgies that they are near water since they live in an arid climate. Let me know your thoughts on this and if your budgie does this. Please participate in the poll and leave any comments on the subject. If you think or know my hypothesis is wrong and know the real reason why they do this please let me know... its all about learning! Thanks! :hap:
