  7. May someone please advise me on what to do. I had a budgie for 13 years, he passed away 2 months ago. I then bough 2 boy budgies who were quickly best friends. Reading forums on why they kept flicking seed out I thought it was a young age behaviour thing. I also noticed there was so much poo but figured I was just used to 1 bird and this was normal. Turns out 1 was sick with suspected gastric yeast. I rushed him to the vet but he passed away leaving my traumatised as I had no idea the condition existed. As my bird Liam was now on his own he was clearly distressed and really sad having lost his best mate. The next day I got him a new boy friend Kurt. Liam has been not allowing Kurt to eat or drink, he will fly around the house chasing him for hours. He gets in his personal space constantly. He has pecked at his head. Kurt just can’t relax. I’ve now put a divider in the cage with separate food and water. I have been doing separate fly time since I noticed the chasing was not a game but bullying. Is Liam taking his grief out on Kurt since Justin died so you think? It’s only been 4 days. Or can it just be that they may not like each other and I have to continue to monitor them? I just feel bad isolating them as they are both lonely now. It’s so sad. Loosing 2 is such a short time my heart is hurting I don’t want to screw this up. Any advice is appreciated.

  10. Hi, New here but desperately looking for some advice. We have had three male budgies for the past 7 years (one rescued two from a breeder). Two have very sadly passed away (cancer) in the past few months. We now have one very lonely budgie. This particular budgie was the least receptive to us of all three. He is very independent and was very bonded to his mates. My daughter (16) primarily has cared for them and her care is outstanding....fresh veg, pellets, rotation of toys, time outside cage and more. Since the two passed, she has been spending time trying to bond with our last budgie. It has been over 3 months now and he is still contact calling to the birds outside and desperately looking for a mate......we had to remove a steel water bowl as he became obsessed with his own reflection in it and was barely eating. Now he is doing the same with the steel latch on the flight cage. My daughter is frequently in tears worrying about him not coping. I know that we could get him another budgie friend but then we keep repeating the cycle of having one budgie at times......repeat etc. She knows she does not want to continue having budgies long term. She is now wanting to look at adopting him out but only to a loving home with more budgies. Still, there are no guarantees and that would also break my heart. So, so hard to know what to do. He is now 7 so he could live a few more years with her good care, though unlikely. Any advice appreciated.

  12. I noticed that a few days ago she had a reddish orange stain around her nostrils and there was a little on her head as well. I’ve been told it could be an infection. From what I know she hasn’t really been sneezing much and the only times I really notice her sneezing is after she preens or eats. I can’t say if her behavior has changed much since I got her this month but recently she has been a bit more active than she was before.

  17. My 8 y.o. Budgie was having several ‘strokes’ for the past couple of months, rarely. Everytime when he was having it, he was screaming, falling off from the perch, and could’t move one of his leg. I didnt know it was something serious until i saw that he became blind. Did the blindness occur because of the ‘stroke’ or was it even a stroke or a seizure, I don’t know at this point. What should I do, is there any way i can return his sight back perhaps? Any help is appreciated.

  20. You never ever clip the wings. Your petvis not for you – you are for your pet There is absolutely no reason to clip the wings. You may need to clip the tips of their nails, but better than someone else does that.
  21. I'm a pro: If they lay eggs then hen. Otherwise undetermined, but I strongly suspect a cock if the bird in question has a tendency to jump on the hens back and his tail goes quickly underneath the hens tail a few times.
  22. Are there other budgies around?
  23. I handween my 3 months old, now 6 months, almost every day. That's how you tame them enough. While it is emotionally satisfying for the pet owner to have a dependent budgie it is not good for the poor bird. Selfish humans do NOT really love their birds because true love is sacrificing yourself rather than exploiting your pet because of your feeling of love and affection. The same goes for human relations. People do not understand what love really is.
  24. After getting the last two budgies upping the wing count to twelve the activity of all my budgerigars raised. I suggest everyone to test if six budgies is the best minimum for flocking birds like Melopsittacus Undulatus!
