Alright heres the deal, i'm sort of new to the actual science of figuring out what a bird may look like before it's even hatched. I have a mated pair and I allowed them to breed as I have room for a larger flock, father is wild type/normal green and mother is green series double factor aka a banana. I'm trying to figure out what the chicks may look like. Anyone with a bigger brain than mine able to help?

Hello, I have a young hen sold to me as an albino. After her first molt I noticed she had some markings on her face her tail looked a very pale cinnamon color and a tad on her wings. I asked in a Facebook group and was told she was just dirty. It's been a couple months the markings are bit more noticeable. I'm in contact with her breeder apparently her sister has done the same thing Does anyone have any insight?

Well this will be the father of the first generation bred to my albino. Any thoughts on what babies we might get? I don't know what the albino is masking. Once we have babies I'll pull this thread and see who got closest

	I have two budgies

I gave them a Good go at guessing but I'd feel quite reassured to have a more concrete answer, thank you any and all for the help!

Initially according to what I've been told I guessed recessive pied sky blue for one. His barring being very pale from the get go is very confusing to me, albeit pretty.

and for the other I figured he was a regular Cobalt but he just looks... Off. There's very little White edging his wings, only really noticeable on his alula.

Budgie Siblings Laid Egg On Bottom Of Cage

Last year I got 2 baby budgies from a friend and I think they’re probably siblings since they came from the same nest. They are both a little over one years old and today i found a small egg at the bottom of their cage. Originally i thought it was a bead and accidentally crushed it only to see that it was an egg. I don’t have a nesting box or anything and I’m super new to this.

What do I do? If they have more eggs, do I keep them? Since they’re siblings, will there be problems? If I can’t keep the eggs, what do I do? What do I do in general? Help please!!!

Hi all I have decided to follow through with the breeding of these two hens displaying black on their body feathers with hopefully the future aim of reproducing that colour in chicks in increasing amounts. It will be a long process of course, but it will be an interesting challenge to work on 'on the side'. I intend to use this thread for my own progress records but also would love any comments/recommendations.

I have decided to use the grey body colour as my base, since this seems a sensible colour to use when working towards black. So today I got two nice biggish grey normal english cocks to put to the two hens I have, one is a 'rescue' which the bloke gave me but was also my preferred cock so I decided to take him anyway (he got in a fight last night and got a chunk taken off his scone). At this stage I am not too fussed on increasing body size, etc it will have to be more about using birds that display the best colouring and then when possible selecting for the best body type of those.

So my first generation will be:

Grey normal cock X green opaline hen(black marks)

Grey normal cock X grey opaline hen (black marks)

Photos will come later of all the parent generation birds

Please help me identify the mutation of my beautiful, but unusual looking baby budgie. His parents are gorgeous. My male is a blue and yellow dark-eyed clearflight and my female is a gray factor, but that's all I know about her mutation. I'm providing pictures of both Mom and Dad and baby. I know it's difficult to tell in the picture, but baby is a soft, baby yellow, with dark gray spots on his back and his abdomen is slate blue (dark blue grey). He's stunning. Please help me identify his mutation, as he's super unusual and I've never seen another budgie that looks like him before. Thank you so much.🙂

Hi all, I am new to the hobby. We have a pair of budgies that we originally thought were both female. One is an albino and the second one is a pure yellow DEC. We got them from a local pet store some months back and the attendant then told us that they were both females when asked, just to confirm.

One morning, before continuing my progress of trying to tame them, I saw the yellow one mounting our albino. I was convinced he was female because he has pink cere as I thought males had blue, so I wasn't sure anymore. We really weren't looking to breed them, and taming them is our top priority- and after reading more about budgie colors and behavior, I learned that he is a DEC and DEC males have pink ceres even in maturity.

I bought a nest box for them after observing their behavior, just in case, as I read that it wouldn't be ideal for the hen to lay eggs without a nest box (if it turns out that our DEC is male).

A few days later, our Albino went in the nest box and started spending more of her time there. And days later I could hear a new chick chriping! Confirms my suspicion that our DEC really wasn't female, but a mature male. Fascinating stuff!

I didn't check the nest box throughout the whole nesting and hatching process as to not disturb the new parents, and considering they not fully tamed yet. I just go to them to give them the greens and seeds they need and clean their feeding bowls and water bowls. But after 7 days (turned to two weeks) I could only hear one chick. When the momma bird was hanging out of the nest box more, I knew the chick was growing so I gradually resumed staying there for longer periods of time trying to tame them again (and somehow get them used to me again to eventually check their nest box).

But before I could check the box, what I saw peeking out of the entrance was a baby Lutino! A bright yellow chick with red eyes. I really didn't expect a Lutino, considering only one egg hatched. Really happy! The chick is about 30 days old now as I am typing this, and have already peeked on the nest box. They had two other eggs. I removed them gradually one by one, in different weeks. I passed a flashlight into these two eggs and they weren't really bound to hatch from the get-go, no embryos. It's okay though!

Now I have some questions, I read that an average budgie lays 4-6 eggs but mine only laid three, and only one hatched– despite being fed greens and quality seed mixes. Cuttlebone and mineral blocks were always provided. Is this because they are first-time parents?

Also, is it safe to say that our new Lutino chick is a split between DEC and albino? Meaning carrying both green base and hidden blue(from her albino mother- I read that albinos are blue base) in her genes. (I'm assuming she's female for now as I read that most inos are female)

	Thank you!

Hello guys! I wanna start of by saying i love this forum and been scrolling around here for years to learn a lot about budgies. Im not a breeder myself but i had budgies since i was a teenager, i once paired my budgies and got some chicks that i kept over the years. And now it is time again!

So, i have a beautiful lacewing hen with a wonderful temper that started to build a nest in my livingroom so i decided to let her have a clutch and paired her together with my yellowfaced male.

She layed 3 eggs and im really curious what to expect from them? Since i got surprised before when my pair (both green) got a blue(yellowfaced) baby. I have pictures of the pair, also some pics of my males parents since he come from my own budgies.

	Picture 1 & 2 Lacewing hen x Yelloface male(type 2 i think?)

Picture 3 , 4 & 5 the males parents, the female is cinnamon(i think?!) If you guys can name the parents color i would be really happy aswell.

	Thanks 🥰
