The woman said that fasting (ie not allowing the bird to eat) for a period of time was a useful tool for taming. I have spent hours (and hours!) reading this forum and I have never heard anyone mention fasting.

Is this as ridiculous to everyone else as it is to me? I would never dream of taking food away from my budgie!

I am new to bird keeping and am currently keeping a cockatiel (indoor) and 4 budgies (aviary).

I have begun to notice that one of my budgies has been struggling to fly more and more. When we first got her she already struggled to fly and recently has been getting worse. This has been going on for weeks and it seems that she attempts to fly up or down between perches and as she can’t fly properly, lands on the ground heavily. This seems to result in her wing feathers repeatedly breaking on the rocks and shell grit that make up our floor.

I am unsure of what to do in this situation as I cannot supervise them all day. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know as I am worried about her and a cold winter is not far away.

We have a walk in aviary with non-flexible aluminium grid panels. I was thinking we could add some 1.2cm smaller aviary grid on top of the existing one if this is a problem.

2. CLEAN UP THEIR MESS AND CAGE SO THEY ARE HEALTHY AND THEY DON'T ATTRACT MICE. 

3. TAKE THEM TO A VET REGULARLY FOR A CHECKUP. 

My budgie, Charlotte, has gotten so fat she can't even fly properly. When she comes out, she normally just sits in top of the cage and chills. If she decides she wants to fly, she'll fly up in the air and fly into any nearby obstacle (window, radiator, mirror, wall). I'm afraid at some stage she might injure herself doing this. Can anybody help?

I have a baby budgie about 25 days old. He/she is too small for its age. The other babies younger to it are much bigger (double in size). But this one is too small. He/she is of the same size as it was a week ago. But feathers and fur grows quite well. Mother feeds them daily. He/she is not so active, either sleeping or just looking around. I tried hand feeding it 3 times. It ate very little food. 

Also, I think he/she is not able to stand properly. He/she leans towards one side and takes heavy breaths 

Can you guys  please let me know if anything is wrong?

I'm a newbie to these forums, and not sure if I'm posting in the right section, but I wanted to get everyone's opinions/experiences. Also, I apologise in advance if this has already been covered as I was too lazy to have a proper look around before posting!

so here we go...

One of my highschool friends owns a pair of lovebirds (yes, I did just hear you all mentally groan ) which have just lain 4 eggs, three of which hatched in the last week and a bit. I own budgies, and have done for nearly 7 years, and keep them in an outdoor walk in aviary thats approx. 2.5 x 2.5 x 2m high. It houses 13 budgies and it seems empty to me, even with that many in there.

Although I havent read every post about lovebirds and budgies, I've read enough to know that what I want to do is probably the stupidest thing I could ever do to my birds, but I wanted to ask everyone what they're experiences have been (good or bad) with mixing lovebirds and budgies in a large (well I think its large) aviary.

I was only thinking about getting one lovebird, and it would be hand reared, and from parents that are both tame (not sure if they are hand reared) and not aggressive. Are the chances of the budgies and the lovebirds bonding good, or so bad its not even worth thinking about?

I would also like to point out (so that everyone knows I'm not just going to mix them and leave it at that), that while my idea is stupid, I'm not (well...not very ). I would take the time to get to know the lovebird before its mixed with the budgies, get them all used to each other (maybe having the lovebird in the house at night and while I'm not home and having "bonding sessions" during the day?), and only fully introduce the lovebird to the budgies when I feel that I know how they all feel around each other, and then continue to monitor them constantly after that.

And I know its practically impossible to tell what will happen if they are mixed, but any advice is good advice, and I would love to hear what everyone has to say

Today, I fixed an Owl to the top of the aviary and some shade cloth to the open bars except one front panel that I need open for access. The myner birds didn't seem worried about the owl, but luckily I was there and scared them away.

I have read, rubber snakes are good and well has hanging CD's. Will hang up two cd's tomorrow morning, and try and get a rubber snake.

Do anyone have any other ideas I haven't mentioned.

I should also add, the bar space is about 1cm-1.5cm. And it's not a huge aviary. It's hexagonal 1.1m wide and 1.8 high. It is covered all the way done on all but one panel with shade cloth.

Any ideas are appreciated.

I have read many posts and topics regarding Tefal pans.

Is it possible to use hard-anodized aluminum pans ? I have some ceramic pans what I think are fine and some stone-marble (all PTFE free).

Do you think this one can work too ? I will try to replace my hard anodized aluminium pans and saucepans. Do you think I can do it progressively even if the bird is already here ?
