Hi,

recently I was visiting my grandmother in Qld and spotted the a couple of budgies in the community aviary. I took a few pictures, as I had never seen one before. I bred budgies when I was a child and hadn't come across a pink budgie before. Now I am trying to find out if it is unusual...and it appears that it is IMPOSSIBLE for a budgie to be pink. If so, how does one explain these two birds. There are at least 7 other birds in the aviary, none of whom are pink, so it isn't food related. I doubt any of the oldies have been slipping the birds some food dye or minerals!

Any thoughts on this one would be greatly appreciated!

I have added pictures above....they aren't great but you get the idea. You can really see the pink in their feathers.

Cheers

I heard that the budgie seed mix brand name "TRILL" is really bad for caged budgies (as in budgies not in a large aviary) I've heard of people who have fed their budgies trill and had them die. I spoke to a breeder about this and he said that it's like giving your bird extacy, like it makes them speed up. He said it was alright for birds in a large aviary(they can fly around and release the energy) but birds in a small cage go stir crazy and die from over stimulation.. or something like that..

what do you reckon?

	Hi,

this is my first post ever. I would like to know if a budgie leg ring with numbers on it still accurate with colour/year age. Awkward question, but I read somewhere that if it's a split ring with numbers, then the colour of ring is not age related.

	Thanks.

EGG TRIVIA

While carrying research for articles it is surprising what apparent trivia can be discovered. Apparently, some years ago a great deal of research was carried out on the palatability of eggs in which the hedgehog, rat, ferret and cat were used as tasters and a long series of unfinished papers were published by the Zoological Society of London. Later work was then recorded where the observations of a highly experienced tasting panels opinions on eggs of 212 species were collated.

The routine was to prepare a scramble, cooked over a steam bath with no further fat or condiment added. A palatability score was recorded against each species on a range of 10 - ideal, 9 - very good, 8 - good egg flavour, 7 - barely perceptible foreign flavour, 5 - unpleasant, 4 - increasingly off. 2 - repulsive and inedible. The highest score of 8.7 was that of the domestic fowl and the lowest was the Black ***, which scored just 2. As for the Budgerigar eggs, they were awarded 7.1 points; the same as domestic ducks and geese. It is therefore interesting to note that the Budgerigar egg is quite edible with its taste being described as "nutty" and "very sweet".

So, how many Budgerigar eggs does it take to make a decent omelette?

Hello everyone!

If you live in Brisbane, have been looking for Ivermectin & intend to attend the Ekka, I have some great news for you!

At the "Bird Pavillion", there is raffle at a table with 2 cages on it: one has 2 budgies in it and the other has a cockatiel.

I mentioned to the man behind the table that I've been looking for some Ivermectin for my budgies & asked if he knew where I might be able to purchase it.

To my surprise, he is selling it at the Ekka this year & I bought some off of him on the spot - too easy!

He told me that the best way to use it was to dip a clean cotton tip into the Ivermectin, part the feathers on the back of the budgie's neck & apply one drop.

To give you an idea of price - it was $12.00 for a bottle about 15cm in height (it doesn't say on the bottle how much it holds).

I hope this helps anyone & everyone in Brisbane currently looking for Ivermectin for their birdies.

This is now my third book on the budgerigar. I have a book by John Scoble, 'The Complete Book of Budgerigars' which I had as a kid but misplaced it, so I picked it up on Ebay. Also I picked another good book called, 'Budgerigars, All You Need to Know, by Michael Christian.

My club went on a trip up to Henry George's aviary and horse stud today. OMG. What can i say but awesome. Henry himself if the nicest most loveliest person. He was so patient answering my probably incredibly stupid questions.

His aviary was the most amazing thing, I think it was bigger than my house... and the birds!!! He showed us a nest of superb babies that were just pin feathers but you could see the potential in all of them.

We bought a gorgeous recessive pied cockbird he picked out for us, and we have named him Henry in honour. I will take a picture of him tomorrow. He's settling into quarantine now.

I have attached a few pics of his beautiful birds for us all to drool over.....

I can't recommend joining a club enough. The people are so lovely and the knowledge shared is just priceless.

It is often posted on forums and regulary spoken about when birds having a 'night fright' or flying into windows and other objects about the home. However there is little evidence to support this.

The avian neck is a highly mobile peice of equipment and a dead bird nearly always presnts with a floppy neck. This is quite normal.

I done some digging around and came across some research to share with you good folks. There are some pics in this article shows birds with skulls exposed so if you are squeemish the pics are at the end of the article.
