> Want a tame bird?, Don't use a mirror...

wink.gif Hello everyone,

Just a little tip here for any new budgies owners out there!

If you want your budgie to be tame then I would advise to not have a mirror in its cage. This distracts their attentions as they think there is another budgie in their cage... and there isn't sad.gif

A mirror is not necessary because there are many other toys that can keep your budgie(s) amused! laugh.gif My Billy has never seen a mirror in his life and he is the most tame and playful budgie I have ever met!
Toys like balls, olymipic rings, swings and bells really keep him entertained and he literally could play all day if he didn't get tired! wub.gif

Just a little tip there.... biggrin.gif

you mentioned bells in thier cages as good toys, i agree that they are as i have bells in my budgie's cage.but you have to make sure the budgie does not pay too much particular attention to the bell as they can see thier reflection in some bells and the same problems can arise as with mirrors.

Mine did too...but when he reached about 9 months of age he got very possessive of his mirror and would sit by it all day, and sing to and feed his reflection. If I got close to him or the mirror (it was attached to a ladder) he would attack. (ouch!)

Yes, MIRRORS! Violet (male) loved mirrors! He'd sit there all day glued to it chirping to it and pay nearly no attention to other budgie, Snowy.

i must be lucky with our charlie,he`s had a mirror from day 1 and still loves to come out and play, only trouble he`s started biting but some ones told me how to help stop him. he loves to talk himself in the big mirror over the fire sat on my hand, after a couple of minuites he seems to get bored of it.

hi just thought i would say that i've only had buddy for two weeks now ,but within five days he became obsessed with his mirror. would just sit and stare at it and totaly ignore me or any of his toys, i even came in from work during the day to check on him. so sadly i took it away on monday. it's like i now have a totaly different bird, lively, singing and very playfull.
myself i will never put a mirror in a cage again

I put Blinkie's mirror opposite his swing. He launches onto his swing so he is swinging at full height then clamps onto his mirrors with his beak. He just sit hanging between his swing and mirror! wub.gif

The best thing Sparky has done was when for no reason hung upside down from his perch and started chirping for about 12 seconds and then just sat on the top again as if nothing had happened laugh.gif
