The hen has thrown another one.

As you can see a skyblue bird with a white tail.

The wing markings will change over the next few months to look like this.

Well If you get the Double Factor Malenistic Spangle or a recessive then it will be a WIN WIN biggrin.gif


When the Malenistic Spangles first feather up in the nest they have normal wing markings with the clear spangle tail (and maybe a head spot) Then as they moult into their adult feathers the marking fade to almost the same as a normal spangle.

and would it have come from the mother or the father? - Jazz I mean.

Is the Melanistic Spangle a complete different mutation to Spangles? From memory I think you guys got them from your Dominant Spangles. But your saying it’s recessive are you? Is it dominant [to most colours] but Recessive to normal Spangles? I don’t like them as much at Spangles, but I like having different mutations, so would like to get some & now you mention the possibility of DF that sounds interesting. You got them from your normal Spangles, does anyone know if others have got the same or is it only coming from a few families?

Karen, The young Malenistic that is in the nest came from Jazz and Bob. The others came from Jazz and Bluey so it's jazz that is carrying the gene. Do you still have her brothers/sisters or relitives?

If not you can have the young chick when it fledges.

Elly I have a DVD from Jeff Attwood where he goes past his experience with the Malenistic Spangle and has taken the variety to the Double Factor and one he calls the mutant 1.

He has now developed five different types of Spangles.

Single Factor Conventional
Double Factor Conventional
Single Factor Malenistic
Double Factor Melanistic
Mutant 1.

The mutant 1 is different, the chick feathers up as an adult. Where by the SF Melanistic looks like a normal to start with except the white tail. It then moults into the Malenistic as an adult.

Single Factor Conventional - these are the spangle single factors yes the one we all know and love
Double Factor Conventional - these are the double factor spangles (all white or yellow) yes your right
Single Factor Malenistic - these are look normal and moult into spangles? yep these are the pictures we have posted
Double Factor Melanistic - ? this is the one Daz is after a fully coloured body and fully clear wings (white or yellow)
Mutant 1 - this is the DF Melanistic? No this one looks like an adult Single Factor Malenistic when it is a baby, it skips the young normal looking wings stage.

I believe the inheritance is the same as a Conventional spangle.

Ok is it jut me that can see some spangle markings on the wings, close to the flights? I thought they were meant to have clear wings can they get a fault with light markings?

Sorry here are some quick shots of them this afternoon





As you can see one has the bludy colour with the white wings. There is a hint of cinnamon in the wings..
The other is pure white.

I'll try to get some more shots in a few weeks time. wink.gif

I have been at the Pine River Show today. We have a rural show. I got 2 1sts, 1 x 2nd and a 3rd.
