budgiedance.gif OFF TOPIC ( as most of my stuff probably is tongue.gif ). In my work doing leadlight and stained glass, I have in the past done fused glass items (bowls plates and artistic pieces etc ) but only when I worked for someone else who had a glass kiln once. I also do the painted detail for leadlights where you may paint, say, the face of Jesus for a church window etc. Then it has to be fired in a kiln so the painted detail becomes a permanent part of the glass. I do the church window type work but have had to hire other peoples kilns for the job. My lovely man went out and brought me home a kiln which he got for free in a local trading newspaper. He saw it in there and raced off and got it for me. While it is an old kiln, it works, and would have cost me thousands to buy one. So, big cheers for Ken....he's one in a million. biggrin.gif It's my very own first starter kiln for glass work. I can also make some dichroic glass jewellery in it, which I love. I can make some brightly coloured glass dangly things for toy components for the budgies avairy too. So I am really excited. budgiedance.gif

One of the babies in Kayas nestbox has a splayed leg. It seems to have a twist in the bone. So I have applied a sponge splint hopefully to correct it. Last time I used this method it totally corrected a leg splay baby. Success is never guaranteed, but at least its an attempt to give a baby budgie a better chance. Some Mums reject the babies but Kaya is a good Mum and we hope this one makes it. I use the sponge method as there is less likelihood if it getting tangled up in the nest or tangling up with other babies this way than the hobble method. You need to do this before 20 days of age for more chance of success. You guys asked for photos before but today I was actually able to do them.

Charlie is doing great smile.gif He is a "quiet acchiever" that boy. Good all round personality. "Spongebaby" legs may not straighten real well but this gives it a chance to learn to perch and pull its legs under it for balance. Kaya is a wonderful mother. She has 6 babies in there now and I may shift another into Misty and Chuckys box later today too. smile.gif

Here is Charlie being laid back and casual tongue.gif
and others.... Shelley and Flash

Kaya only has 5 babies to worry about now. Apart from the two eldest ones I put in Ty and Di's nesting box with the pied babies, I put the very youngest baby in with some nearly hatch date eggs in another mums box. This is the single mother (cinnamon skyblue) that has no name. Her partner Chad died a week ago. Names for Mum budgie gratefully accepted. This budgie so far has accepted the new baby as hers. smile.gif

Ty and Di (with the two dominant pied babies) have taken to their two fostered babies and they are being well fed. Fattest crops you have ever seen. Harley and Rose are sitting on 8 eggs together. The little skyblue cinnamon single Mum (who I have decided to call Daffy) is looking after her tiny fostered baby very well. Misty and Chucky have just one baby hatched and it seems to have taken after Dad and is perhaps a dominant pied baby going from the coloured skin patches and pin feathers so far. Spongebob (leg splay baby in with Kaya's) was a worry to me this morning as it didnt look all lively or fed properly, but this evening was being fed very well and Spongebob was quite active. New photos tomorrow. smile.gif

Yes Paul...he is lovely. I like the type 1 YF blues and with the opaline its very nice. I had a beautiful hen like this but lost her in an aviary flight accident.
Here she is rip.gif
I like this boy who is just like my hen I lost, and would be pleased to have some of his babies in the aviary. I was disappointed two days ago when they threw an egg out of the nest. It had broken open and a nearly due baby budgie was in it. sad.gif But we have one hatched so far and 2 or 3 other eggs.

OH YEAH !!......... Update. One of the new babies in Rocky and Bunty's nest is an ino biggrin.gif

Kaya is one of those Mums that stays in the nesting box a lot. Very devoted, but needs time out every now and then. She is happy to come out and let me check babies, but also lets me do anything with her and the babies. When she is finished in the nesting box she gets a very long holiday in the new aviary. smile.gif
