I have decided to do a daily blog of activity in the Budgiebird Hilton aviaries if anyone's interested. We have so many comings and goings, and with over 150 budgies and new events, new babies, and daily surprises that a daily diary, if you will, would keep the updates coming.
So Todays events for Friday July 14th 2006 is......
No young babies died through the cold night last night......a BIG plus.
Lucifer and Shiloh are raising one of their own babies so far and one adopted baby. More eggs to hatch.
A new baby to Izzy (cinnamon green opaline ) making 3 babies in her box.
The three babies in Misty (dilute YF2 grey) and Chuckys (dom pied) box are colouring up and I was hoping for a dominant pied in there. There some funny coloured pin feathers coming through.
Four babies in Kayas box all doing well.
Ciara has 3 so far all well.
Slinky and Bloo have three babies
We have eggs due to hatch anyday now.
Great news is that Buddha has finally learnt to fly. I have been giving him flying lessons

Little Bao is still scuttling about.....she is SO TINY and scuttles around like a clockwork toy
more to follow later in the day.
***ADDED TO ***
Here is Ciara and her 3 babies
Kaya and her four babies
Izzy and her three babies
Slinky and Bloos three babies ..........more later

We have had some nights of 2 degrees celsius or thereabouts which can kill newborn budgie babies in the nests

Bao looks so small and runty, I hope she flies very soon. She is so sweet. Great job Buddha on your first flight smile.gif.

Bao is definitely small and runty, Lovey. She is so so tiny....I would say the midget version of a budgie. She would be a half size budgie right now. Mum was small too and her Dad isnt what I would call a decent size budgie either. Another budgie I call Cameo came out of her nest tiny too but has grown in the week or so she has been out. Here's hoping. But Bao might just be a midget budgie. smile.gif Buddha can fly about 5-6 feet right now without crashing, so his flying lessons from me will continue till he gets better.

I don't flap my wings Lin....I hasnt got any tongue.gif: And poor little Bao has such little wings that there's no room for air under them to give her lift happy0195.gif on the other hand, poor Buddha needs bigger wings to flap to lift up his body.

****************************************************************************
Here's two of the babies in Misty and Chuckys nesting box.... hard to tell what they will end up......one has creamy yellow on the wings. Third baby ....photos to follow as they didnt come out well.
Baby one
Baby two
and here is Mum and Dad (these are old photos taken when they were younger)....

Both parents have been involved in the hatching of eggs and the rearing of babies....a new age Dad.

Todays news in the aviaries..........Saturday 15th July 2006
Buddha flew the full length of the aviary.....thats 30 feet !! He is doing well. Bao still not flying more than a metre or so in bunny hops. All the young ones hang out on the aviary floor near their seed tray, sunning themselves. I will try and get photos of Buddha flying but it may be awhile. He doesn't fly unless he absolutely has to. Poor little Scooter has hurt her wing miscalculating a landing, but no broken bones and she is mostly a groundhog too right now, with some flying.
New babies.....Pepper (mauve opaline) and Spice ( grey opaline ) have their first baby. A new baby to Butter (creamino) and Rufus (dom pied) ....who wasnt looking after her first two ( one is fostered, the other died) but she is feeding this bub.
Ciara now has four babies, Kaya has her four babies and they are colouring up nicely, Slinky and Bloo have four babies and Lucifer and Shiloh have one of their own and one fostered from Butter. I will take some more pikkies of Misty and Chucky's three babies as today brings new colour surprises there. We have two new baby budgie females, as someone owed me a trade from way back and I chose my two new girls this morning. One looks a bit like Melon. The one that looks like Melon is called Jenni after a forum member (Nerwen) and the other little one is called Linnie after two forum members (Cheeta...Bih Lin and Lin) smile.gif
Linnie's dad was a lutino and Mum a yellow face grey spangle and Jenni's parentage.....was Mother a soft limeygreen colour yellowface spangle and Father was a strong violet and white dominant pied.
New photos tomorrow of all babies. smile.gif

Another look in Misty and Chucky's nesting box at the three babies reveals what may be two colouring up like the mother....very diluted colouring, with maybe some blue. Photos tomorrow as visitors cut into my aviary time. Removed the Frangipani tree, and drilled some holes into the tree trunks in there to put perching in place. We are going to put a large pot in there with some bamboo I think. Buddha is flying everywhere now but makes time to be with Bao who is still a little groundhog. The beautiful violet opaline that came out of Radars box (with Angel as mother) has turned out to be a male which is a nice surprise....all my opalines thus far have been girls. smile.gif

No....I defiinitely didnt get a pied from Misty and Chucky this time around. But theres something unusual happening with two of them. I will get photos tomorrow.
Radars violet opaline boy has no name as yet........suggestions ? If opaline is sex-linked....how come I got a boy ? All suggestions re opalines in a nest in the past have been always "you have a girl" smile.gif
