Hi all. I am going to be building a new aviary this year. I used to breed budgerigars more than 25 years ago and have decided to start the hobby again now that I have more time to dedicate to the birds. I live in the UK in a place called Boston in Lincolnshire. If there are fellow breeders around this area that would like to say "Hi" then that would be great. It will be a few weeks/months before I complete the new aviary build, but when completed I shall be looking for some new birds to start me off. So like I said if there are any breeders close enough to me then by all means do say "Hi". Looking forward to hearing from you all....... Cliffmas

I only have indoor budgies but welcome to the forum. It's too cold where I live to keep them outside. (Quebec, Canada)

How is the build going there?

As for breeders, I'd suggest you go to your local Budgerigar Society, I believe yours would be the Lincolnshire and East Anglia Budgerigar Society.

Hope it all goes well for ya.

All going well so far Jimmy. Concrete base all done along with 3 out of 8 side panels constructed. Just waiting for some concrete blocks and aviary mesh to be delivered. Then I can get on with the roof construction. It will be a fair size when its finished, about 28 x 12 feet. I think its only fair that the birds have as much room for flight as possible to help keep them healthy and strong. We have more storms and heavy rain due again this week. The bad weather that we have been having here since December is really slowing the aviary build down. We were flooded out in early December and some of my neighbours have still to move back into there houses, just got to think positive and keep going I guess.

Thanks my birds are just normal because here we can't get show birds. I love them though and find them beautiful.

You can't get show birds in Quebec? Really? Aren't you allowed to bring them in from the US?

Do you have any pictures you can upload to show your build Cliffmas?

Show Budgies are usually referred to as "English" Budgerigars. Don't as me why but there you go..

To upload pictures you need to have a Photobucket account or similar (basically any website that with allow you to save photo albums/edit and the like. there is a topic on here somewhere about it... Let me see what I can find.

http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/faqs/index.php?action=artikel&cat=1&id=243&artlang=en

there it is!

The reasoning behind Exhibition Budgies being called "English" is because it was the English that first started exhibiting them, although other European countries have certainly assisted as well. Some people find the term extremely annoying considering that they are an Australian bird because - whether they are Pet or Exhibition type - it's still the same bird.

The one I really don't get is "American." They weren't the first to keep pet type birds so I can't see why pet types are refered to as such... Anywho. Hopefully you figure out how to post pics soon. I'd love to see your set up. Did you contact the local Budgerigar Society over in Lincolnshire?

We call them Exhibition (Show) or pet types not English. They got called "English" because of the changes that were made to the birds (size, Feather etc) when they where exported from Australia.
