Hope it helps. 1. this window can be used as a opening entrance in and out for your birds you could make this window so it opens and shuts to allow you to catch your birds easier and also keep them out of bad weather. 2. you could have this bit here big or small up to you on how many breeding cabinets you are doing. 3. your wall of breeding cabinets. depending how many pairs you are interested in putting down. It's back to work for me now so it will be a few day like this before I can do any more. I have been told that I shoulkd concrete the flight area. I can't really afford it and was going to pave it. I would like to hear from people that have pavers and hear the pros and cons. Thanks Brett Link to comment

As to paved floor that is what we have. We laid 1 layer black plastic over that then second layer of pavers, that's because we had enough for 2 layers but could be just as good with 1, e.g.sand or road base, plastic layer for weeds etc then pavers with sand swept in between. We have never had any trouble with ours. I scrape floor every weekend remove old seed husk etc about once a month I hose it when it's hot weather. Yuor aviary is looking really good. I bet the kids are pleased with the conversion. Good job. Link to comment

Robyn the pavers I managed to source second hand are realy think. What I did was layed them on compacted "crusher dust" and then used Brickies mortor instead of sand in between the gaps. That way when I wet it down the mortor has set and made the pavers very steady. The kids are very excited (just like their Dad) and have been out recycling things off the local hard rubish piles. It has been amazing the things we have found. Just like the old saying "one mans trash is another mans treasure". We have found food dished water bottles, things to use as pearches and a cage for us to use as a nursery for our babbies. I will post some more when finish. Cheers Bretto Link to comment

So my last weekend I moved out the sand and got the pavers clean again. Excellent choice on not colony breeding, very risky. I too started colony breeding and wasn't getting any chicks, and I read a thing about colony breeding from **KAZ** and thought that could be it. So I got my first clutch this year, and about to get a second (fingers crossed) in 3-4 more days, as they have started to mate again. Your aviary/flight looks excellent and fun for the birds. Hope you can get a good outcome from this. From Budgie_Mad Link to comment

Today I finished the inside with the trimming and the roof for the flight. Next is level the area ready to pave. Then I have to knock up some doors for the aviary and the safety entrance. L_J it was more to do with the timber I had it was bowed cross ways so threw my measurements a bit, but it all worked out well enough. Here's a couple more shots. Looking terrific !! I know that it looks harder than you think, that often is the case. I am thinking I should put a safety door on my aviary, but ther is only four of the birds over there. The others are in my new breeding cages. Keep up the good work. Link to comment

Tell your daughter to keep in mind buds will chew most "stuff" to pieces. Some swings made with wire and beads look great and birds love them. There is a plan for them somewhere, maybe under toys etc Link to comment

I was worried about doing this part, I wasn't sure if I could or not. But overall I'm happy with the result. One of the original posts from the cubby was a bit out so it made it harder, but it all fits in well and adds to the rustic feel. Now all we have to do is the rest of the wire around the safety door/room and wire on the right hand side. So not long until we can pick up our birds. It has been a lot of work but I have enjoyed doing it and I know the kids will remember doing it as well. Cheers Brett Link to comment

Sorry for thr lack of updates but with work an all the rain it was hard to do any work or post to the site. But I finally finished the aviary on the weekend and on Ella's birthday. The plan was to have our birds to release on her birthday but the rain put an end to that. I stared this thread as " day one" I'm not sure what day we are up to but today we got our new birds and it was smiles all around. Thanks for the interest in these posts. It has been fun and something I hope the kids will remember. Bretto Link to comment
