If the former, re- post with details. If the latter I'd say start with pinned topics on breeding budgies etc that will give you a bit of info. then it's a case of follow your nose. I have picked up everything I now know through this site. It's a case of read, read, and more reading. Then putting it into practice. Firstly would be cage set up,quarantine, diet, safe & unsafe foods. Things to look out for in case of illness. etc. etc. AND ask questions no matter how silly you think it is. Link to comment

You would be disturbing the process. Budgies are going to bite no matter what you do when you pick them up. I have lots of females they break my skin. I normal use a tea towel to pick them up. I pretty much know nothing on the taming side of things as I haven't the time to be taming them. Maybe you could start a topic in this forum Kinda Hijacking this Topic. if I had administrator powers I would Split what u just wrote into a new topic. Link to comment

Hi elle, welcome to the forum. Robyn and L__J have given you good advice. The best way to learn to breed budgies is to read, read, and read some more. There is a wealth of information on this forum, and as you absorb it, you will think of specific questions to ask us, which we will do our best to answer. I think it's great that you are learning before the problems present themselves. (Sorry about the italics, I can't turn them off!) Link to comment

If you need to know specific things, then ask that question, as it's hard to give you general advice. If your hen was using nest box and then you changed it, of course she will be nervous about it. You can't change things mid- stream without upsetting things. Set up your cage add birds of breeding age and condition and go from there. Instead of trying to tame skye, why not wait for new chicks and tame those? If she's older and hasn't been tamed early she may not ever be tame enough to come out of cage. As to what colours you would get that depends on what your birds are split to etc . others may help with that. Link to comment

I'm assuming that's what your cock bird is. Their parents may have been e.g pied's or spangle or some other mutations, that don't appear on your birds. When you breed them you may get a few little surprises as to colouring/mutations etc. I'm not up on genetics myself to advise but that's half the fun!! not knowing what you may end up with. Elle on further advice from Kaz. where I mentioned about parents could be spangle etc. they can't be spangle if they don't look like a spangle if that makes sense. They have to either be spangle visually or not they can't be split for spangle. Kaz will hopefully correct this if I'm still off the track l.o.l Link to comment

Do you have a nest box in cage? If your hen is being that aggressive I'd take him out to let his wing recover, maybe in a cage next to Skye so they can still be together but she can't get at him. Does he have any open or bleeding bites or just hurt from her pulling feathers? Link to comment
