HELP!!!

we bought my brother in law (disabled) a budgie for his birthday from a friend of ours who hatched him from avairy and caged hima s soon as ready....

he is now over a year old and is squeaking all the time (sounding like a guinea pig to be honest)

his (we think) cere has also turned brown around the outer edges making us think he was actually a she but a bit confused as it is still blue around to nostrils

he has been squeaking day and night with little rest

droppings appear fine and as far as we know he/she has been eating and drinking fine??

Help needed sooo confused dont want to loose him/her

Post a picture of the bird if you can and we can determine the sex for you.

(clear close up shot of the face, with no flash)

Hens actually have blue cere's when out of breeding condition, though its no where near as bright blue as the males, it often cause confusion with new budgie owners.

If the bird is eating and drinking fine, and the poos are 'normal' as you say then I would say the budgie is just misbehaving a bit.

What kind of squeaking is it?

Is it a kind of talking squeak, as if the budgie is communicating? Or is it a really loud exasperated squeak?

I also notice you made 2 topics the same.

Though its understandable that you are worried, try not to double post here.

A forum mod will be able to fix it up for you.

Yes , sounds like he is having trouble breathing and he may be going out of condition because he is sick, which will explain his cere turning brown. Is he thin and does he look fluffed up. Feel his keel bone in the middle of his chest.

Until you post a picture of the cere its hard for us to know if its a male with issues or a female not in breeding condition. Could be either.

Also a bird that makes a squeaky sound can have issues with a lack of iodine. The squeak you describe is one of those symptoms amongst others.

Please update on whats going on and add a clear c ere picture please :)

It looks like a hen to me. Not being able to balance, and going to the floor instead of the perch sounds pretty serious to me. That doesn't usually go along with normal poops and eating fine. How is her weight? Have you felt her keel bone as was suggested? It may be crucial to get some food into her. I think a trip to an avian vet may be in order, because what you describe doesn't sound good.

as said by kaz vets NOW or this bird will surely die

squeeking is biggest give up respiratory is involved poo does not need to be bad

nor does keel need be thin

however as with your hen here crop is most always bloated

If the heart isnt working properly fluid builds up in the lungs and they drown in the fluid. Was your vet an avian vet or normal vet ?
