I've been scouting around the site for weeks/months, learning, reading.

I'm not sure if I can post pics on my phone, but if it doesn't work, I'll jump on the pc tomorrow and do the upload from there.

I'm heaps nervous and very excited. This is my second shot and hopefully this time round will be some what a success from 3 years ago when I last tried, only to receive 3 infertile eggs. Oh well, live and learn.

I've been reading other members journals and found it heaps interesting and exciting at the same time. I've read a few post from the regulars saying it's a bit quiet around here lol, so I thought I could share this amazing experience with me.

My goal, to successfully help produce a healthy clutch.

Anyway, enough from me it's getting late. I'll upload pics as soon as I can tomorrow and share some pics with you all.

By The Way, lol, story is; my first breeding pair in 3 years, this pair just laid its first egg on a saturday, did the routine check in the morning, nothing. A late afternoon check led me to find another egg in the box. Wooo :)

Suggestion......if you put a small bit of wood beading at the entry of the nestbox then when you open a nestbox you have less chance of an egg falling or being thrown out. Or you can cut your sliding nestbox lid into two...a two inch high section which is the bottom and the top being bigger and it just sits on top of the lower section.

are you looking to join into the show side of things?? your birds look great

I wouldn't mind the cock - i could use his grey grey to some of my hens :D

Not sure if you know genetics but i like the pairing for some a possible interesting clutch of babies.

Look forward to the hatching and developing of chicks

I love my birds gernericblue =p

I'm spending $300 because I wanted to fill up the cage, silly, I know. Real breeders are rare to come by and no one sells pairs, but that's understandable. I lost my best pai (which ill post pics of at a later note)r, I got heaps upset losing them, not by death, but by escaping. my fault. I felt like I was patient enough to wait for the perfect pair which I had, but by losing them, I felt the need to replace the love lost.

nerwin; I am definitely looking to get into the show side of things, this site gives me the inspiration. That grey..his been eager and nice with the ladies since he arrived into the clan, he was eyeing the yellow female but she never was interested with him. she was interested with another male that was already bonded to his lady, but he knows better because she loves him. when I put this girl in the box for 3ish days, I put the grey in there with her and instantly, they bonded, started feeding her, preening and all the rest. I was stoked as, as I never saw them interacting outside with the others.

I couldn't tell genetics if you had a gun to my head, but I do fall head over heals for a goodlooking budgie lol

thanks for having an interest in my journal ladies n gents :) I hope I have a happy ending to this story for me, and for you members.

real breeders ????

you just are not looking in the right places

many breeders are happy to sell you pair or pairs

in fact some wont sell unless you take them as a pair

however with budgies pairing does not matter so much just time away from other sex and both being in breeding condition is all that's needed to bond a pair you wish to breed

if your in Melbourne their are-many clubs

in fact if you want to get everyone in the same place at once the adult shields is coming up in march at Preston

all clubs come together with their best birds and then at end of day one is chosen to receive the shield of best adult budgie on the day

its a great experiance for anyone to see the birds and quality they will need to achive if going to atempt to breed show birds

i know when i went to my first one i was so disheartening as i was thinking omg i would never be able to get birds or breed birds with enough quality with my little allowance

how ever i just started walking up to random people and asking excuse me and then a question (even if i knew the answer myself sometimes as all answers are different when comes to breeding budgies ) once chatting and discussing the bird or birds i would then if they gave a adequate and good conversation id introduce myself and request that maybe i could have their name and number for future questions and discussions possibly in future birds

if i was in need of a certain feature they may have achieved or a variety they may have

i found most are very obliging and more than happy to help out

and most have culls for sale and or will be happy if your really interested to let you know when what your after comes along some even point you in the direction of someone else if they can not help themselfes

so come along and have alook

meet some people

ill be their

as will other members from here

you speak the truth Generic and thanks for the heads up. i just may need to attend these club meetings sometime in the near future [=

here is a picture of the pair i lost recently. i bought the lady off a breeder and i was heaps excited for the colour. the male from the local. i considered these 2 my best pairs, reason? colour and size. i have never owned a female of that colour and line, and i have never owned a yellowface that size. i bought a male the same colour as her, but she wasnt interested. till i put her in the box, then introduced the male. they hitted off, straight to preening. i could of sworn that i was going to be lucky..unfortunately not. i hope these birds are safe in the wild...where ever they are

imag0146q.jpg

im still pretty down from losing this pair, but life must go on.

on a lighter note, guess what i found today??! [=

Hi Barny your birds are lovely, sorry about the pair you lost, that is always heartbreaking. I lost my best baby budgie 3 years ago, we had no escape door and I walked into the aviary and out flew my beautiful dark green hen, I screamed and she flew away, gone never came back.

Greg build me a escape door straight away.

Good luck with your breeding, so far everything looks good.

Gb I will not be at the shield because our club is to lousy to put a team in, they all want to put their adult birds down to breed instead, NOT happy about it either because I had been preparing my birds for the shield, everyday spraying and everything and all for nothing, I have decided to keep doing it along with the young birds are shows start in 2 or 3 weeks.

I can't bring my birds to the shield because our is meant to enter prior to the show , as for you show show will see, it will depend on finances. Not working at the moment so things are even harder.

The 3rd hatch today, the second oldest hatched 2 days ago, and the first hatched a day before the second. I got a bad feeling 2-3 of the eggs shown are infertile, but that's life. I managed to keep 3-6 eggs from 2 different pairs because they got abandoned, hoping for atleast 1-2 babies from the other 2 pairs. The mother in the picture only gave 4-5 eggs, with all of them being fertile? I'm not too sure, but guaranteed 2-3.

This is my only active pair atm.

Hope all goes well.
