What size is you (shed) bird room/ aviary GB, is 3m x3m . Love the pop out idea too.

i have a window that fits the whole wire area of wear that little cut out is i am just waiting to get some help to screw it in place then i can slide it open n closed for birds to come in go easily

the size of that small window is big enough though the birds do fly in and out quiet fast

just like a barn door where the big plain flys through both ends hee hee cool watching them

but it is only temporary :}

I think the way you've divided your aviary is fantastic.

 

Just a question (because it seems i might have to do something similar) how hard is it to make a divider like that? Does it require an advanced level of woodworking?

If I was you Maddy, you could use either wood or box tube steel. Steel is better as budgies chew all the wood.

The way your aviary is if you divided it front to back along the middle upright steel.....going to the back.....you would still have a decent sized flight as well as a breeding room. A length of box tube along the floor front to back, another length along the ceiling front to back, an upright length at the back floor to ceiling, another length floor to ceiling for a door. I have made access doors from security screens for windows found at salvage yards and the box tube is also found at salvage yard or even recycle sections at the rubbish tip. Wouldnt cost a lot .........around $5-$10 per piece of steel ( recycled ) and about the same for a window security screen to be used as a door. Some metres of mesh and you are done

But if you you steel you need to weld, well that my problem anyway NO Welder so stay away from steel until I work out how to join it. We used steel for the aviaries but Greg used half the aluminum square type and flattened out the ends and attached with screws, worked well. The aluminum came from the recycle yard $5.00 for a piece 6 feet.

You could buy the aluminum from produce store for example 6 metres of the 25 mm square tube here is $34.00. and at Bunnings 3metres is like $30.00, so much dearer. But Bunnings have the connector joints which are quite cheap. I think they are called conect it. Daz used them to construct his aviary. They vary from about 80 cents to a couple of dollars.

I know money is a problem but this is just an idea.

No you dont. I just erected a welded aviary down at the new house. It was box tube steel and I cut it with an angle grinder, loaded it onto a trailer and rejoined the steel with small sections of slightly smaller diameter box tube and metal tec screws.........easy as

There are also joiners for box tube, both plastic ones and steel. If you can use a drill and metal screws is so easy. You can also buy very cheap little shaped brackets at Bunnings for around $1 each to join as well. TOO EASY. Think outside the box SPLAT

But Kaz how do you join the corners, the smaller piece inside wouldn't work for corner, where do you get the joiners because I have tried and can only get those big bulky round type ones and they are like $10. each.

Tell me how you join the corners and I will be out doing straight away, want to make a veranda for the from of my birdroom because of the heat that comes in the door and window and was going to use the aluminum and connectors but I think the steel would be cheaper from the recycle place,

it was not hard

meashured the inside of flight

went to wood place

told them i want this much cut in these lengths delivered :}

cost me 1 something under 2 hundred anyways

then for 10 meter mouse mess 30 bucks and few hinges for the door

a friend whom could hammer stuff and measure straight (un like me )

9 hours later ..... done

My name is James from South East Melbourne.

There is a great way to use box metal - not steel, but aluminium. There are joiners as well available. You can get them at Bunnings but they are cheaper at an aluminium supplier that sell direct to the public. I havent posted pics on a forum before but if anyone is interested let me know and I can email some pictures of my internal cages that are on wheels made from Aluminium and plastic joiners. Works fantastically well.

Hi James, I am using them for my wire door for my new birdroom. And to extend the height of my table and also maybe for a new indoor aviary.

I get mine from Bunnings because thta's the only place I know around here.
