Its called division.........you divide the recipe quantities into an amount that suits you......like a quarter or half.

OR make the full amount and freeze it.

You were kind enough to give this recipe,so i went to a bird supply place and was asking if they had some of the ingredients. He asked me what i was doing with them so i explained about your recipe and he procced to tell me off big time saying that Budgie Starter was enough and i would be providing incorrect amounts of vitamins/nutrients.

but i still follow your recipie :)

The one I use is this one http://www.horsesuppliesdirect.com.au/prod2776.htm

Its a whey protein isolate and contains around 76% protein. Whey protein isolate http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whey_protein

Its a product for racehorses but I use it for my budgies. It makes a big difference when I use it both in the soft food and as a powder form in finger drawers for parents in breeder cages.

NO Shannon. If you read what I say above..........its for racehorses. Try a stockfeed place that sells products for horses and livestock.

Slightly off topic, but where do you get your finger drawers? I'm guessing they are more readily available in Australia than the US, because I can't find them anywhere, and I even googled it!

WOW!!! It's been a while since anyone's posted here, I'm not really sure if I'm allowed to do this, but my birdtricks.com halloween package came in the mail and it came with a few halloween recipes for your bird :) I doesn't exactly have copyright on the front so I may aswell post them up :)

Halloween Cookies:

Ingredients:

2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour

1t cinnamon

1t ginger

1/2t cloves

1/2t salt

2t baking soda

3/4 cup healthy margarine spread, room temperature

2 large eggs

1/2 cup pumpkin puree at room temperature

2T agave nectar to sweeten (substitute maple sirup)

Topping:

1/4 cup black rasberries

1/4 cup blueberries

optional: a few drop each of blue and yellow food colouring to darken mixture

Preheat oven to 180 degrees

In a small bowl, mix together flour, spices, salt and baking soda. In a large bowl, use and electric mixer to beat margarine, eggs, and pumpkin until smooth and fluffy. Slowly add the dry ingredients to form a smooth, soft dough.

To prepare the topping, puree the fruit in a food processor or blender (add food colouring sparingly to fruit mixture). Refrigerate until ready to use.

On waxed or parchment paper (WTF!?!?!) or on bench that has been dusted with flour (ahhhh.... english), roll out the dough to a thinkness of 1/4" to 1/3" and cut out your shapes! (Let the small kids do it, they have a ball ;)

Bake on a cookie sheet for 10 - 12 minutes. For crispier cookies, bake a little longer.

When cookies have cooled, smear on the fruit puree micture and decorate! Use whatever you want to make some cool halloween treats :)

Candy Corn Parrot Popsicles:

White:

Creamed corn

Apple juice, white grape juice or pineapple juice

Quinoa, millet, rolled oats frozen or crushed pumpkin seed in with any of the above juices

Orange:

Carrot Juice

Pumpkin Puree

Pumpkin Puree moistened with carrot juice

Yellow:

Mango juice

Orange Juice

When using juices, you must freeze one layer at a time because they will naturally blend together.

Stuffed Jack-O-Lantern:

Thoroughly wash a small pumpkin and gut and carve it as you would a jack-o-lantern. Retain the guts and replace the eyes and mouth back into their slots on the pumpkin face. Set the pumpkin upright in a shallow baking dish with about 1/4 inch of water at the bottom. Bake the pumpkin uncovered in an oven preheated to 180 degrees for about 45 minutes.

There are no rules to what you can use for the filling, but steamed vegies, pasta, dried fruits and fresh fruits work well :)

Apple Pumpkin Birdie Bread :

1 box high quality corn bread mix

Applesauce to substitute for oil

Almond milk to substitute for regular milk

1/4 cup pumpkin seed

1/4 cup almond pieces

1/4 cup millet

1/4 cup dried cranberries

1/4 cup chopped pitted dates or raisins

1/2 cup chopped apple

Follow basic preparation instructions listed on box - substitute new ingredients in equal amounts to the old. Add seeds, nuts and fruit to mixture. Follow cooking instruction on box.
