hi

My budgie laid her 1st egg today . Now she is fully inside her nest sitting on top of the laid egg . Are there any special methods to take care of it ? Like food and nutrients .When is it okay to handle the eggs and how long would it take to fertilise the egg ? Is there any way to know if the eggs are fertile or not

Thank You!

The egg is already fertilised if the budgies mated successfully ..........it doesnt happen after its laid.

Food and nutrients should be something the parents have been on all along..........varied diet including fruits and vegies.

Dont touch the eggs as we can transfer bacteria from our hands that may affect an egg hatching or not.

Congrats on the egg

You can candle your eggs to tell if they're fertile within about 4 or 5 days or laying. You need a small but strong torch and you should be able to see veins, maybe even the heart if the egg is fertile.

My male[father] budgie tries to bring out the mother budgie from her nest and tries to mate with her . The 2 of them mated yesterday and day before too. Now there are 2 eggs in the nest ,yet the male budgie calls the female out and

tries to mate . The female budgie does not seem to resist it but does not mate for long too.

Is this okay? Will this harm /weaken my mother budgie?

The mother and father budgie will mate between each egg laid. This is normal. No problems here :)

The mother budgie has laid 2 more eggs now total of 3, will she lay more eggs how do we know when she gonna stop? Also once the eggs are laid what will happen? When will the eggs hatch? Is it okay to take the eggs and see if they are fertilized ones or not? Will momma budgie discard the eggs if touched by humans?

Lots of questions!!

Do not touch the eggs! They do not need to be handled. You may candle the eggs when they are about a week old, with a flexible torch. When she stops laying she will just suddenly not lay one day. Then you wait.

My Baby budgie died in her egg shell :D

My \mummy budgie has laid 4 eggs of which 2 have hatched and the chicks look healthy and are being fed by both the parents , but the 3rd egg started to turn black after it had started cracking. I am able to sense a slight nasty odor when I near the nest.

I am not sure what to do with that defective egg and sure why it has turned black.

The mother budgie is very very protective and is not letting anybody to approach the nest.

What should I be doing now ? Should I clear the defective egg or let the mother budgie itself clear it ??

Will this defective egg harm my newly born budgies' health?

Why would you say greywing at this stage ? :D

The chick is definitely an opaline for a start......too soon to be saying greywing.

Please post pictures of the parents.

Oh, Okay. That's how my greywing babies looked, but maybe it's just a coincidence. I do still have a lot to learn. :D
