I took these two 028-11.jpg and put them into the bottom of the breeder cage as the Greywing hen has now laid another two eggs.

Here is DAD

brisbanebirds022.jpg

AND BABY

015-11.jpg

I just found out from the breeder of the Dad

The sky cock you bought to my knowledge no dark factor but some of his brothers had the violet neck markings..... his sire was a green greywing and mum was a green opaline greywing I feel he would be split opaline as all his brothers have bred opaline hens but you will get some normal hens. So, does this mean FLUFFY is not female as the white cere indicates ??? and does this also mean that the green of the parent or parents could have been mistaken and was actually a violet green ?

Kaz, if Dad is split opaline then 50% chance hens normals, 50% chance hens opaline. Not being a violet expert I would say that violet in greens might be hard to determine BUT violet sheen on neck does not always indicate violet in the bird. I have skys with a violet collar sheen that are definitely not violet. Unless your cock actually breeds something you can determine as definitely violet then I would say the jury is out.

Gorgoues chicks! I would love to breed some. Can you put a Heavy marked clearwing to a greywing? I have this real gorgeous Bright violet clearwing and was told I should put him to some big normals....could I put him to a greywing?

I would stick with putting him to a normal,

put him to a greying, end of clearwings.

I doubt it Renee....there are others doing greywings and have been for longer than me. I have to get some of these ones coming through with better body colour too. It will all take time. There are no overnight successes in this game.

I may put Big Blue to a greywing hen I have for some decent splits though.

You mean you are "thinking" about it?! :fear I would have though it was a no-brainer! In fact I would be putting Big Blue to as many hens as possible ... at least a couple of Greywing hens!

big blue will be double clutching with his cec gearing hen first. Then a holiday and then pair up later maybe april or so.

Or i can wait till his Cec Gearing hen is sitting on eggs and borrow him off into another cage off and on to service some greywing hens :(
