The birds are too young then. Best toss the eggs and remove the boxes. Budgies need to be 12 months old before breeding otherwise they run into all sorts of problems.

would have to agree with that statement... any reason why you decided to pair up 1 male with 2 females?

What made you put a nestbox in a cage with underage birds ? :D

Throw away the eggs and remove the nestbox. Breeding underage birds is risking everything................parents and babies.

You have been given bad advice to begin with to have put them in this position...but its not to late to stop and do the right thing by your birds.

Stop them before they do damage. Birds will breed given the chance. I had it happen to me. They bred and layed eggs in a seed catcher. I had to dispose of the eggs, change the top of the seed catcher, and stop the birds from damaging themslevs.

You have a responsibility as the owner of any pet to ensure that it is is not injured, either by an outside force or by itself. Do what is right. Everyone may want to breed their birds, we all get excited about the chcik, but we need to ensure we do it responsibly. Breed them in the correct situation when they are old enough.

Stop this now before it becomes a problem Dragonx

okay - I just went back and read your old post about breeding setup.

Everyone told you that what you had was poor, it was not sufficient, it was inadequate, it was just plain wrong. People offered you advice on how you could fix your breeding setup. They suggested ways in which the cage could be divided. On why it is a bad idea to have more birds than simply the breeding pair in the breeding cage. In all, people gave you some excellent advice to help you create a suitable environment for your birds to breed in.

So here we are, 1 month later you start this thread with the statment "My female just laid 1 egg this morning what do I do now?" You were given advice on what was needed to be ready for breeding. I am not sure if you misunderstood something that was said.

I am assuming that since you informed everyone that the birds "are all like 3-4 months out of the nest this month", your birds are 4-5 months old? This is too young for breeding.

I am sorry but here is my new advice. Take the eggs, throw them out. The birds are too young to breed. It is unfortuante that the hen has laid eggs, do nto encourage any more of have her attempt to raise a family. Think of this as an unfortunate occurrence and do what is right by the birds.

Breeding budgies should not be accidental. It is our responsibility to give them the best chance for happy healthy lives.

have you read any of the preceding posts mysixbabies? DragonX knows that he might get into trouble, then he appears unhappy or shocked when it occurs. I am concerned that although some experienced breeders offered him some good advice, he failed to implement it and now his birds are in an unfortuante situation.

i think some members need to be more friendly to other members as i know of quite a few members feeling like they are being treated the wrong way. i can see two points on it but still it could have been said in a nicer way!

You are right in so many ways. If you go back and read what I wrote, you will see that the first part of the post was me being very kind, offering advice because I thought he got into trouble when things were not his fault.

You will notice the next part where I mention I went back and read his previous post. He asked advice. Perhaps there is fault with both the advice given, in that it did not specify ages, and the fact that DragonX did not mention the birds' ages. Maybe by not asking the birds ages, we simply made an assumption that you knew what you were doing. Wrong by all of us.

Yes, I was probably harsh. I am do not mean to attack you. I apologise if I my comments were too harsh.

When I started out, I had birds that found a place to breed - in the husk catcher of all things, and I had to play the mean landlord/God and i threw the eggs out. We all have things like this happen.

I think you did the right thing by disposing of the egss.

We would all love to see pics of the breeding pairs you have going.
