Just want to mention a very nice gesture from Dave...he bought me this little blue budgie hen bred by Fran McLaughlan

Related closely to this little hen I bought as a 10 week old chick at an auction recently for $25.

Hoping the chick Dave bought for me develops just as well....she is going through her first moult. The father of the first blue bird I bought at auction is the grandfather of the little chick Dave just bought for me.

Update on the little blue hen Dave bought for me while he was in Perth with us.......here she is NOW ;)

As Dave willo recall she was offered to me as a COCK. I knew however that it was a hen. Her sister which I also have was also sold to me as a cock and I also knew to be a hen.

I am laughing and crying here at the same time.

She is such a great bird. I would die for a bird like that. I need Hens like that in my aviary. I am so pleased for you Kaz, but it is killing me everytime I look at her. I am just preying that she produces offspring. I woudl hope I would be first in line on that for sale list - LOL.

Beautiful hens Kaz

Dave, did you ever find out what was wrong with the bird that was autopsied?

It has been a long time since I wrote in this thread, and it is with sad new that I do again.

I have been taking the hen to the vet each week, and she has shown little sign of improvement. Still underweight, still throwing up, no explanation for it. The way she was going she was never going to recover. I made the hard decision tonight, and told the vet to euthanase her. They will do that, then do an autopsy so I can have a better idea of what infected her, and the others. I need to know.

I could not risk her going into the aviary, and she has not been in good health for over 2 months. No signs of recovery. All that could have happened was she spread her illness to others, so to the birds who did not make it to Wattle Flights, you will be missed and I am sorry I could not do more.

A hard decision Dave but you've done the right thing. NOTHING is worth compromising the health of your flock. ;)

they did the the autopsy, and it did not reveal anything out of the ordinary. She was not putting on weight, she was continually throwing up, she had a messy vent and she ended up with a very minor yeast? infection.

Nothing in her bloodwork, or in her gut, or in her crop, that would indicate illness.

Well, whatever it was, it will not be exposed to my flock.
