My ringnecks were going troppo, something they normally only do if they see something furry (the cat or the rabbit usually) but as the rabbit has gone into hiding from the rain and the cat is no where to be seen I knew it wasn't them, so I went out to check. In the dim of twilight I could JUST see a small furry shape sitting just inside the front wire. I figured I better go get it as I have been baiting and didn't want it to die there and be chewed by the birds :eww:

It didn't move when I went in and so I figured it had been baited, I picked it up by the tip of the tail and went to bin it BUT halfway out of the breeding room it started wriggling :) I couldn't drop it as the dogs were watching intently and i was full of bait so I held on and ran to the bin with it twisting in my hand trying to bite!!! Finally after running through my house out the front door I dropped it in the green bin and it ran in under the rubbish. Normally I don't like to leave them to succumb to the bait but in this case I'm not planning on diggin through the bin to find it.

Hmmm...feeling a little jittery now!

:D they are grotty little things , i wouldn't be going through the bin either to finish it off either ! good call not to leave it there for the birds to play with . i don't know if they would actually eat it though or would they ? ringnecks are great too very characterful and they're on my list of birds to get Edited by birdluv

Ringnecks might even eat them!! The bloke they came from said he had quails originally and couldn't work out why the kept disapearing until he discover the ringnecks were finishing them off :o

The mice are officially in my bad books now, I just opened my hall cupboard where all my sewing fabric is kept, I haven't opened it in a couple of months due to a heavy load at work and I can smell mice :D Going to set some traps and then I face having to possibly wash the whole lot to get rid of any mousey smell, who know what has been chewed and wrecked :(

Oh...COME OOONNNNN! It must be the weather, the cat (who NEVER catches mice usually) just ran into the house and dropped a very much alive mouse on the kitchen floor, it ran into my fabric cupboard to join the gang!!!!!

I feel like I have a plague all of a sudden :D The baits seem to be working though, so I'll just stick with them for the time being and hope they settle down.

If you ever find a dead/half dead one again, pick it up by the scruff of the neck like you would a cat/kitten - but really tight. If it is still alive, if can't swing up the tail to bite.

The grey plastic safety traps work better than most traps I have found...

We had the pest man here a while ago and the mice went too... but now they are back. Not happy. Joys of having a 3 year old who drops crumbs everywhere!

We have had those plastic safety traps set up for months and haven't caught a single one! That is the only reason we have now resorted to baits. I spent an arm and a leg in order to get the safety containers for the baits so my kids couldn't touch them plus I bought another trap that can catch up to ten at a time. So far I have caught 4 in the trap, all have been baited first plus the one I pulled out of the ringneck aviary the other day, think we are getting there gradually now ;)

No, unfortunately not and since we don't seem to have rats anyway it's probably not really worth the cost ;)
