He's very handsome!

I finally got a female Princess on Saturday. Unfortunately the meeting with Monty has to wait as she is undernourished and had an eye infection. I am treating both so maybe I'll be able to breed them this season yet!

Ours usually do two clutches each season so you may be okay once she is well.

I sure hope so.

I promised the lass who gave me Monty (her mothers bird actually) a baby Princess for when she moves into her own house.

Not sure yet if I will get any handraised (except hers) as even aviary bred and raised ones are lovely.

Is there a way to sex them young? ie: does the head shape stay the same etc?

I would like to know how to sex them young Karen but cannot. The thing I have noticed in the nests is some have a different colour cere to the others...slight but noticeable. Wish I could follow that through and see if I get it right at the end...but we will have to move ours on before maturity or the avairy will be too crowded.

I am now handraising the two babies. Their mother BABY stopped feeding them. They hadnt been fed all day today. They just took a large feed off a spoon, and they are by my computer in a showcage with a lamp on them.

They're looking good. Someone told me they are bad parents for the first clutch or 2. A friend of mine was given a pair with some other parrots a while back and they are on 8 eggs (2 no good they were layed earlier) the old owner said the last lot died after a few weeks- I'm guessing she stopped feeding as well. At least this time they are with people that know what theyre doing and either him or me are able to handraise them if they do it again.

aRe both the babies green or is 1 blue? Does the blue/green gene work the same as budgies?

Due to work commitments today, I fed the babies early and thought I would try putting them in the nestbox with their half brothers and sisters to see if they got fed while I was working.

Didnt take SMOKEY long to dive in the nestbox and feed all 7 of them.

So, I think they will be fine.

I have just gone out to check on my Princess chicks as I hadnt done so as I have been pre-occupied with doctors visits etc with my son and was devastated to find they were all dead. I am so mad with myself as I should have checked them daily. Why do the parents do this? The poor poor babies, I am presuming they starved to death. :(

Sometimes too young a mother....sometimes the Dads arent helping the hens enough or at all. Princesses are meant to take longer to mature and breed, but it doesnt stop them trying to breed a year earlier than perhaps they should.

Smokey has been an outstanding father. He has been the primary care giver to all 7 chicks in that nest. Here they are today

They are very pretty, Smokey must be a great father to raise so many babies.

Smoky is adorable...we bought him as an untamed aviary bird. He was raised with a Galah and he "spoke Galah" when we first got him ( imitated Galahs cries ). Pretty soon he was on our shoulders and head getting around the aviary and he steps up too. He is a delight.

*** We also now have Barraband eggs...two nests with hens on eggs.
