She seemed okay when I got her. In May I noticed that she had some growth on her beak. This growth seemed to be what is known as scaly face according to some of the pictures that I looked at online. I bought some over the counter medicine for her and some spray for her cage and for her. The medicine seemed to help, however a few weeks later the "mites" seemed to be growing on her beak again. I am just wondering if she does have mites and what medicine to use? And where can I get this medicine either from a store or online? Also there was a medicine called Ivermectin that I am trying to find. I live in Canada, so does anyone know where I can find this medicine? I have included a picture below for you to look at. Thanks so much as I really need to help my little budgie. With one bird if you rub some oil like baby oil into the effected area around the beak, being careful not to get too much in the nostrils & affecting it's breathing. Also the mites occur on the legs so massage them with oil also. Do this a couple of times a week & that should solve your problem, as it blocks the air ways of the mite & they suffocate. At last now I can see your picture it certainly looks like scaly mite, it looks oily around the area have you been treating it with something already? If you could get some Ivermectin from a vet one drop on the birds skin is all that it needs & you should have no more trouble. What was the treatment you got for it, if it was the proper thing I'm surprised that it has come back, as it's quite easy to treat. Edited December 2, 2007 by Norm Link to comment

Like ivermectin. Try an internet search for it. Your budgie does have scaly mite and probably isnt working with your over the counter meds due to the fact that most petshop remedies arent as strong as they should be. Best sources are vets or specialist bird supply stores. Link to comment

So maybe your vet can give you some too. I always get a full syringe, so I have it at home if needed. My vet told me to put a drop on the big vein under the wing (it gets into the system), I find it easier then on the beak - I would be afraid to block the budgie's nose  Edited December 3, 2007 by Zebra Link to comment
