  1. I'm very new to birds. Inhave never owned one in my life ever until about two weeks ago when i got my first bird. He(im assuming) has been super chill from start with hands being near, around, or in the cage. Nothings ever seemed to really startle him easily either. He even just learnes to perch on my finger! Recently, about five days ago we decided to get a new bird, a bad idea in my opinion for multiple reasons at the time. The new bird is a little more active than Gunter, my first bird, and i often see Gunter copying everything TNB, the new bird, does. Like playing with toys he never seemed interested in. But the bad thing about TNB is that he somehow made Gunter completely afraid of us just like TNB is. Gunter and TNB fly all around the cage whenever around hands come near them. It's making me very upset because i've just started bonding really well with Gunter, and TNB is making it really hard to keep doing that. Can someone please tell me why this is happening? :-( I'd also like to add that we put Gunter in a new cage before getting another bird AND we left them both alone together for about four days without much human contact at all. I know that all sounds so horrible and i did not want to do any of that stuff at all at the time we did it. (TNB is yellow and Gunter is Blue)

  4. Hi, I'm Brax

Hello all! I'm Sarah (call me Sarah or Brax). I currently live in Leeton, NSW. Throughout my life we've always had a budgie (named Joey, only deterred from that tradition when I named one Leif). I haven't had a budgie for several years though, but my friend recently got one and we love to hang out with him. I'm sad to say I never hand trained my birds, and experiencing the love and fun of a trained bird has me really wanting to get another budgie! I've been researching like crazy, figuring out the best place to have my cage and trying to find local breeders. In all my research (I've spent hours the past few days reading threads on this forum haha), I've decided that I'd very much like to breed budgies one day. For now I'm going to stick with one pet budgie, and possibly wait to breed until I'm in a more permanent residence (might look into buying a house in the next couple of years), that way I can have a full aviary set up. Anywho! A little about me - I'm 22, work for Telstra and have a passion for web design (likely wont make it a full time career, more a sideline business : D ). I also adore yarnwork (loom knitting, crocheting and cross stitching) and I'm one handed. I also have a strong desire to move to Tasmania even though I've never been there haha. Anyway, I'm really looking forward to chatting with you all! I'll be spending the time between now and when I start breeding learning as much as I can in theory so any pointers in the right direction are much appreciated! (and if anyone knows any good breeders around Leeton and possibly Narrandera I'd love to know, thanks!)
  5. Hi, we had a dad budgie escape from a breeding cage 3 days ago(30 aug). Mum is sitting on 6 eggs due to hatch early September and rarely leaves box. I am worried that she will not be able to raise the 6 babies by herself and hand feeding is not an option. This is her second clutch - first clutch of 2.infertile and 3 dead babies in eggs and she started laying the second clutch ( all appear fertile this time) before I had removed the first so she has been sitting contiuously on eggs for over 40 days. My options are:- 1) do nothing and hope she can manage by herself. 2) introduce another male in the hope that he will court her over the next few days and then assist with baby feeding once babies have hatched. Threat - he may hurt them? 3) Let another current dad assist her. She is in a double breeding cage. I could remove the centre partition and hope that the other brilliant dad will look after both clutches. The other clutch has 1 egg left and 6 babies and is the second clutch for that pair. The father is a brilliant dad who feeds and sits on eggs and babies. 4) transfer all or some of the eggs to the other pair. I was considering transferring one or two eggs to the other clutch while there is still an egg left in the aecond clutch. This could preserve at least some of the babies from our lost dad and reduce the load on the single mum. I guess there is a chance that the other mum could reject the eggs - even smash them.. If I was to transfer all the eggs over time, i worry that a possible clutch of 13 may be too much for my brilliant parents. Any experience or advice would be highly appreciated. Thanks
  6. I'm A New, First Time Budgie Owner!

Hi! I'm Adaira and a college student at the University of Oregon, in Eugene Oregon United States. My boyfriend of 2.5 years are going through school together and felt like our home was empty. That is when we decided to welcome Nugget! We are very new and have had Nugget for 2 days now, and we think Nugget might be between 2-3 months. Just a baby I am looking to make some friends here and get some help from other new and/or experienced budgie friends. Here is a picture of my boyfriend and I, and another of our little baby. Any guess on the gender? We have no idea yet... but he thinks it's a boy and I think... maybe it could be a girl. Help us out! I will also post this on the "What Sex is my Budgie?" thread. Thank you and Hello!
