  2. Hi all, I got my first budgie Sydney in December 2016 (aged around 2 months) from a pet shop and bought a second budgie Rocket (aged around 6 weeks) in march 2017 from a home breeder. I changed their water and food every few days. Ever since I got the 2nd budgie, Sydney has been puffing up and I just gathered he was doing it as a dominance thing? They live in a spare room at my house in a reasonable sized cage. The last week or so they have been shifted around a bit as I had guests and dogs, so they've been out in the kitchen and bathroom as well. My sister walked in the spare room yesterday to find Rocket (new budgie) dead in the bottom of the cage, she buried him while I was at work, when I got home 3 hours later I walked in to find my other budgie Sydney dead as well. Could anyone give me and idea of why they both died within 5-6 hours of each other? Please no hate, I've never owned birds before and I thought I was doing a good job, I'm absolutely devastated ☹️

  6. 2014 Hobby Breeding

Hi All, I was just reading back over my breeding diary for 2009! What a long time ago that was! Since then I think I have only bred once. Tragically, one of the two chicks that were hatched died unexpectedly and the other escaped from her cage - she was too smart for her own good I say. Anyway, I'm back into it again. For good hopefully. The happy couple are: Aussie DSC_3160.jpeg and Able DSC_3141.jpeg And the beginning of their family: DSC_3159.jpeg Looking forward to them hatching. (Due date...April 5th) Have a good one!

  8. Bonding Troubles

Hey guys, If you've seen my previous post, i made a new pairing in my breeding cage about a week ago.. The male was previously paired to another female but i split him up to go with a new female. However the breeding cage is in the aviary where his old mate was and I have seen them regurgitating food to eachother through the breeding cage wire front. He doesnt really show any signs of affection towards the female in the breeding cage but they still seem to both go in the breeding box for short periods (couple of minutes) during the day. I know i should probably just be patient but i feel that I wont get any positive results if he is still 'interacting' with his previous mate. Should i take the breeding cage out of the aviary so he can breed with the female or will they get over it and settle down in the next couple of weeks? The pair that I am trying to breed are both over a year old. There is another male in the aviary with the female and he trys to peck her away when she's near the male in the breeding cage but is unsuccessful. Some answers would be very helpful.
  9. Hellooo, I have just paired up a pair in my new breeding cage and before you say it, yes i have done my research... over 6 months of it Anyway, i paired them up two days ago (yellow lacewing hen with normal green cock) and i was just wondering how long will it be until they start to bond and mate? The male was previously bonded with another partner but i separated him to go with the lacewing, :/ he seems a bit sad and misses her because he tries to find way to get out of the cage since it's in the aviary with the previous female. Could this affect how he bonds with the new female? I have read around that you can expect eggs 8-14 days after pairing? seems a bit quick to me but you never know! Anyway, let me know on what you know! cheers, Willem
  10. English Vs Normal Budgie

Hi all, Im wondering if my budgies are english in the pictures below and if there vents need trimming for the breeding season? I have heard about many people doing it but have never tried it before... is it worth it? Would love to hear the success rates between the two (dont know if these images will work) Thanks, Will
  11. Hi All, In the past in my averys, I have had budgies and King Quail together for years with absolutely no problem. At the moment I don't have any quail and I have just located some for sale nearby but they are Japanese Quail rather then King Quail. I'm just wondering if there is anyone here who can advise me on the difference and put me at rest as to whether they can live harmoniously with budgies. My avery is equipped with nice quaily hiding places and grass and places to dust-bath ect. I've kept them before I just need to know about the different species. Thank you!
  12. So, one great thing about this forum is that it has been around for donkeys years and there are heaps of old topics that are really helpful. There are others that are really funny, and others that just never went anywhere... What I'm going to attempt to do with this is post links to some topics from the past that I think should be revived and given a second breath of life. P.S. some are so old that the members names are listed as 'Guest' and some of the pictures may have been deleted. To start us off here is a link to a thread that talks about American and English type budgies - as you can see from the very beginning of time this has been a topic that has confused or annoyed many people: http://forums.budgie...hl=budgie&st=20 So what's your favourite type of budgie? As you can see I added another option...

  14. Alright, well I guess you can guess why I'm here. I'm back in the budgie world and I want to know what my birds are and you lovely people are the ones to help me. Oh, I can make some guesses but I've forgotten most of what I used to know and I'm too lazy to go back and research it from the start so I've come to you guys. Thanks! 1) 2) 3) 4) I'm dreadfully sorry about the horrible pictures.... They will improve I promise!

  17. I'm Back

Well Hello All, I'm not exactly new, but I haven't been here for 6 and a half years. Can you believe that? How could I?!? (gasp) But it's true. Funny how life get's like that hey? Anyway, I decided to return - the good samaritan - and all that time I've had budgies. It got down to two for a long time there. And then I bred them for one family's worth and then I had four. And then both of my males (Butter who I'd had since like 2007/2008 and his son) died and so I was left with the two ladies. (Who it's my personal opinion got pretty sick of each other's company.) Then my little sister got excited about breeding budgies so she bought two little lads from the budgie guy up the road and here we are. Two of them (the older female, Oi and the blue boy) have paired up and the other two just ignore each other by the looks of things. And now we're just waiting for Dad/Grandpa to make us some new breeding boxes hopefully soon and we'll be able to start this awesome hobby up again. So that's the run-down on this slacker's life. Can't wait to get back into the BBC thing and brush up on everything I've forgotten. Love, Miss Katie
